Yes so the consumer stops buying and the producers are then forced to change the product by reducing the sugar. It’s simple really.
This isn’t an NHS issue, repurposing electrical goods nowadays is a nightmare. the sad reality is it probably costs more in admin to move, test and reinstall a pre owned TV screen than buy a new one. That’s true whether it’s in the NHS or ICI.
No idea, i wasn’t there. But maybe if the TVs were mounted to walls and the rooms were refurbished or repurposed? Or if there was a scheme to upgrade all TVs as most were no longer fit for purpose, but those particular ones just happened to be nearly new (even though the rest were 10 years old). Maybe the TVs didn’t even belong to the trust? I’ve seen people complain about a govt department ‘throwing away’ nearly new pc’s. The truth behind that story was that contractors were replacing ‘all’ pc’s, the vast majority of which were 10 years old* and they didn’t belong to the dept anyway, they belonged to the supplier and were rented on monthly contracts. *the pcs ceased to be viable well before they were replaced - outsourcing IT is stupid.
As an IT outsourcer, it is not stupid - it allows companies to buy in expertise if done properly. Most places don't.
As per the original comments they were wall mounted used to communicate and call for patients to attend the Dr. Even if they were dismounted from a wall during refurb they should still have been remounted and reused. Not replaced. They are not obsolete. Thats at least 1.5k wasted. Laptops... Dont even get me started.
Depends on the size of the contract, and like you say, most places do it badly. Lots of govt departments decided to outsource their risk along with the work. Some banks too; it took too long to realise their mistake On large contracts the reality is that by the time the ITT is ready, the scope has been scaled back and is 12 months out of date. By the end of the contract, the technology is years behind where it needs to be.
Now you know more than me about the situation, are you absolutely certain... they were owned by the trust? Not by a contractor Not purchased by a 3rd party Not part of a ‘project’ Like I say, people walking past the van when ‘brand new’ laptops were being scrapped had no idea of the details and that there was zero cost to the government.
I have no reason to suggest Mr Dawsons story is false. As for Laptop costs and other such items I get my information on these first hand.
I raised questions which would elicit further detail. like I’ve said many times, I’m not suggesting there’s no waste, but I’ll bet there’s no more than in most large companies. And concentrating on that ignores the simple fact that it’s underfunded.
Its rampant with waste overspending and excess.. From overpaying for basics to pointless overpaid jobs. You could chuck 100% of tax revenue at it and it will never be enough. Until it stops getting used as a poltical football and people start looking into its finances properly then nothing will change.
My eldest daughter came round tonight and told us a story, whilst not exactly Bank breaking sums, thought did sum up some people’s attitudes towards spending money. She started a new job this week in a new department of NHS doing admin, she spent 11/2 hours looking for a specific £140 Christmas tree that the department manager also has at home. She found very similar very quickly and for less but the head was adamant it had to be the same.
