You make a couple of interesting points there
2. It is more than possible the real reason for the statement released was more about warming the idea up of needing to trim the squad from a playing perspective to try to head off ‘its all about the money’ comments.
3. I was thinking about this yesterday and came to the conclusion that perhaps a large part of the issue with our owners is a cultural thing in that they are hard nosed businessmen and come from a market place where their actions are pretty standard and accepted as the norm and perhaps what they lack is the etiquette required and expected in both the UK & Football in general.

 

Listen to the statement and you might come to a logical conclusion. He was sacked for other reasons as well eg results. If he was carrying on having talks behind their backs then that would also be a reason but not the sole reason as stated. ( Also having a detrimental effect on the club. Any business wouldn’t put up with that) If players have had their heads turned then you might as well let em go. A transfer fee becomes the compensation so to speak. But also the tapping up agent/club should be brought to task.

 

Maybees top and bottom of it is he turned darn quite a few offers from the club to renew his contract which he refused, so any reason was a good enough reason to cash in on the asset and bring in another cheap as chips coach.

 

He's a snake and a charlatan but he's right on this point. Look at how many players have been in the 18 man squad this season and now can't even get on the bench for one reason or another. Walton, Simeos, Styles, Green, Pinnilos, Mcgeehan, Thiam etc. We could get rid of half a dozen fringe players next month and replace them with half that amount but of better quality.

 

They are trimming the squad for financial reasons which also lets Struber have a bit more input into the new influx of recruits at he end of the school year.

Or it could be that you think he was more popular with the fans than any other previous manager. That got sacked. Eg Norman Hunter. Thing is. he wasn’t going out for a drink with the lads. Your basis is indeed popularity. not logic. not results. But popularity. We can argue about the strategy all day. I don’t like it but am fully aware as was Stendel. ( I live in hope it eventually shows through) You don’t like it but there it is. One thing it doesn’t do is stop me from watching em. There are lots of clubs in far worse situations than us. I would love the club to be run by fans. But consortiums in that case very rarely have success. Due to lack of funds and know how. We have some of the richest people on board that have the ability to finance over and above break even figures. Do not choose that route. But think they have the strategy to make a success with it. Time (and I’m afraid for this season as most, it may be too late) will tell.
Re your second part. I do believe you can talk to any player with 6 months left. ( foreign including Scottish) 3 months (English leagues) or visa versa without permission. If anyone knows that not to be the case please put right.
But clubs can be given permission beforehand by the parent club .

 

Stendels popularity had zilch to do with going for drinks with the lads. It had to do with his passion, enthusiasm, a record breaking season and the fact that he had time for the fans. Not the lads but all the fans no matter what age. He was the last one to leave on the open day, he was being dragged away but he came back to carry on signing autographs. When we were promoted he went and celebrated in the Garrison because he knew that it meant as much (if not more) to the fans as the players.

 

Fair point Helen. But some of the hero worship is quite emotional as I’ve said. If he was that bothered he would have not gone behind everyone’s backs. A similar scenario for me was Danny Wilson first time round. Quote. never left a team while on a contract. Left to join Wednesday. I would have said good luck mate without that statement he put out. Oversaw the release of Redfearn b4 he left. I didn’t welcome him back others did. Not an issue for me. Nobody berated each other. Just different views. I look at things as I’ve said logically on the statement put out. I remember on here how many said Hecky would go on to greater things. Struggling to get a job in the lower divisions I’d have thought. Doesn’t give me any pleasure by the way. I genuinely hope Stendel is a roaring success. Possible given Hearts have not got the same strategy as ours.

 

Re Danny he had links with Sheffield Wednesday and I didnt begrudge him leaving ( not keen on who he left for though!) after 2 brilliant seasons.

Not sure about Hecky. He was positive about his Hibs experience in the Scottish papers so maybe someone else might take a punt on him from the lower Scottish leagues.

I think Daniel has his work cut out not being a native but I would love to see a really successful manager start/have their early career at Barnsley
