    I'm finished now (until 2024).
A great night for democracy. Bring on Brexit.
Just seen I've got a conservative MP if you must know Marlon (Stocksbridge and Penistone).
    Pity Corbyn's standing down.
    Up the Reds
    Enjoy

Add Conservatives and Brexit Party together and Labour would have lost Barnsley Central and Barnsley East. Corbyn will not fight the next election as leader but will stay to oversee the succession. He should go now. FFS if Labour do not return to the centre ground then Boris is home and dry in 2024. People need to grasp that message and get shut of the extremists pretty quickly or Boris will become another Thatcher.

Never been a 'joiner' Helen, but I'm a moderate with the type of vote Labour need to win. I did vote Labour last night by the way, having only got home from Lanzarote at 8.30 pm because whatever I think about the leader I couldn't have it on my conscience that Barnsley Central might elect a turgid Brexit Party candidate.

I guess I still can't get my head around the fact that anyone of a Labour persuasion would vote for the lunacy of Brexit and undermine our standing as a nation. Clearly I am wrong!

Glad Labour held Barnsley & increased their majority in my seat of Leeds North West. Beyond that I have to say it has been a complete disaster.

So Barnsley Central, Dan elected but for the first time in a long time, the majority of voters in Barnsley Central didn't vote Labour so not in their usual comfortable position.

Probably mainly down to the Brexit issue but this has to be a wake up call to the party on a national basis to get more in touch with the pulse of the nation.

Just my opinion but think we have had the last 3 years living under this false suggestion that the majority of people now supported remain, whereas Labour and the Lib Dems especially have seriously been hoodwinked by a noisey minority who never accepted the leave vote, now this result if we go along with the narrative of it being a brexit election, has been hammered home..

Jo Swinson has paid the ultimate price and actually MP's like Yvette Cooper seem to have actually been saved by the Brexit party.

None of the usual suspects can surely put themselves forward to lead Labour now, think a fresh face is required and a shift to keep some of the existing policies but also adopt some of the centre ground otherwise we will see the next election play out the same result.

Interesting to see the pound jumping up as soon as the exit poll was revealed.. I'll make a prediction that now we are 99% going to leave the EU now, watch a bost load of experts start to backtrack on their claims that leaving will be bad for the UK..

Your right, the nation has spoken loudly and clearly in favour of Brexit. No more "let the people have their say" and "we didn't know what we were voting for". In the full awareness of the facts, the nation has voted in the majority for the only party (which stood a chance) whose line on Brexit was more in keeping with the feelings of the electorate. Thank god this is coming to a close. Unless ofcorse Boris turns out to be Agent Boris and starts to backtrack on his own promises...

    "We stood firm"

So did king Canute and we know what happened there. As has been pointed out, the worry for Labour voters if you look at Conservative + Brexit, had Brexit Party not stood, all likelihood is that Labour would have lost...in... Barnsley Central!!!!

Places that have been Labour since the 1930s have become Conservative so clearly even putting aside the Brexit effect, Labour supporters like yourself will have to acknowledge that Labour policies have to change since the overwhelming majority of the country have rejected Corbynism

    And there you go.

You just encapsulated what we all know you are.
Callous, arrogant, totally lacking in compassion or concern for anyone but yourself.

You really are despicable. Thank f**k i moved to Ireland and no longer have to mix with people like you.

All this "i work 60 hours a week" crap is just alpha male posturing. It doesn't cut any ice though. Anyone with real brains probably earns as much as you in half the time.
You boast about no holiday or sick pay as though it's something to be proud of. Well you'd better hope that the rest of your family are as big and hard as you are because they'll need to be.

Corbyn not wanted i'm amazed on how much this man as brought the Party to its knees, Corbynism surely not the way forward, nor is electing a Corbynista. The Labour Party wants a leader now that understands the people and re connects with the Towns and not just the City dwellers. The party now know what the people want, and NEED to get behind the Government and GET BREXIT DONE, and i think once Corbyn, and Corbyn'ism is routed out of the Party the next Election will be different.Ya know me i'm not a political guy but Labour's issues within the party av never been properly addressed, they've lost the vote cos in my opinion they've took us all for Granted, LABOUR R,I,P, ps C.O.Y.R. by the way i dint vote again.

    Sorry Marlon but that's crap.

The UK is saddled with the Tories. Again. With Brexit.
The fault lies as much with Labour as with the idiots voting for Boris.
You laud the Union excesses of the 70s. The constant strikes. The hijacking of the Unions themselves by radicals. The hijacking of the Labour party via the block vote. The three day week. The power cuts. The refuse building up in the streets.
Your heros like Scargill, Livingstone, Hatton created a generation of voters who would never consider voting Labour.
The only time in virtually the last 50 years Labour have been electable was under Blair and you seem to hate him more than the Tories!
Well congratulations. You've created the conditions for the Clunks of this world running the country to hell. It's about time you started to realise that practicality and reaching for the centre ground is the only way to save this country from the Trump clone that's just been elected.
    Too late now though.

The irony here it's the Brexit party that has saved the Labour party further embarrassment in Pomtefract, Barnsley Central and Rotherham.

Labour lost votes through not honouring the referendum result. People like myself didn't want a second referendum they wanted a deal negotiated by Labour. Now we're left with a Conservative government because Corbyn was a pacifist.

It wasn't a protest vote. It should have been a wake-up call. In racing parlence they backed the wrong horse.

I doubt labour would get elected then even if they went to the centre ground, other than if the tories systematically dismantle the NHS I honestly don’t think they’ve a cat in hells chance of overturning this majority at the next general election
