Who do you regard as a suitable replacement to Jeremy Corbyn? I've heard Lisa Nandy speak and she comes across as a very competent MP, I know she is well respected within the party and also at 12/1 worth a punt.
Well, even though I’m a momentum member I’ll be making my own mind up. We need to keep left, but there needs to be more balance for me. It’s a big job to unite the party so it’s a crucial decision. Uniting us rather than policies will define my choice.
He's the favourite, but considered part of the London set, I think they'll move away from that type of leader
Brexit will be history by then mate. It’ll be irrelevant. Starmer is a good speaker and more Centre left than Corbyn. He’s the only real choice. Plus if Europe is still an ongoing political potato then there’s no one more knowledgable in the Labour Ranks than he is.
I remain convinced that the world experienced a fundamental change with the 2008 recession that means New Labour solutions won't work. Centre left parties have suffered a Europe wide collapse, Scottish independence has redrawn the political map, and Brexit has accelerated the erosion of support in Labour's heartlands. Labour's position on the spectrum will be immaterial if they continue with the paternalistic approach has been the hallmark of all sides of Labour since the collapse of industry and the unions. People will be turned off as much by a Blairites telling them what they need as a Corbynite. They need humility and to grow from the base up, be a force within communities, and organise through people from those communities. All Labour's travails, including Brexit, are from areas taken for granted, disconnected from Westminster, and represented by parachuted in centrists. Labour have got an existential crisis. How do they represent their new core of university educated young professionals who want liberal, green and transformative economic policies and the social conservatism and fear of tax of the traditional heartlands. Is that compromise even possible? I'm increasingly of the view that it can't be brokered by someone who, rightly or wrongly, was seen to have been portrayed as trying to prevent Brexit.
Surely the question should be aimed at lapsed labour supporters and unattached floating voters asking what sort of leader would make you vote labour. It isn’t a far left momentum backed candidate that’s for sure I’d like to see someone like Jess Philips or Kier Starmer given a go. But I don’t have a vote.
