Hang on to our best players, clear out Pinillos, Cavare, Thiam, Green permanent & maybe loan out Sibbick & Styles & Walton. Get a couple of decent experienced defenders in on loan & maybe we have a chance of staying up. I can't see any of the four mentioned featuring in the style of play we are set up for & I'd rather give a few of our U23 squad bench space. That should mean we can balance the books, have a chance of staying up & if we don't our defence should be better placed to cope with L1 with the experience of this season. A couple of wins now give confidence & hope & keep us in contention with a few sides that really aren't that great either. Boro' look poor, Luton in free fall, Stoke seem to be still in a mess, Wigan no better than us either, or Reading TBH, even Charlton may get drawn in on the run they are in. Still think we have miles to go, but at least we will be sending out a lifeboat. Lose any of our better players & we can forget that though.
No I wasn't... It's nothing that interesting.... I am intrigued now though... What would the relevance be to the RAF?
It’s a strange one because we’ve picked up more points since diamond Ged took over, but we’re shipping more goals. Stendels worst defeat was conceding 5 at Preston, but under Murray and Struber, we conceded 4 v stoke and 3 v Cardiff, qpr & Blackburn. Scoring more but conceding more in a very gung-ho fashion
I think there’s an ‘accepted truth’ about the Championship that’s completely incorrect. I keep reading on here that this league is so much tougher than L1, and whilst it is tough, the oft ignored fact is that it’s also hideously inconsistent. In L1 shock results are fairly rare, and teams at the top consistently beat the teams at the bottom and mostly the teams in the middle. look at the results in the Championship and you’ll see it’s not so clear cut, so we’re not chasing a handful of teams who are consistently performing better than us, if we put together a string of results, we could leave the relegation zone comfortably. Because those above us won’t put together a string of good results.
well I was at RAF Cranwell in 1977 and worked on the Jet Provost Handling flight....... J.P.H. so just wondered.
Absolutely; but I believe that we don’t need anywhere near the overhaul that many suggest. I think we’re a couple of decent fullbacks away from very comfortable in this league. The heart of the squad is IMHO much more important than the sum of its parts. And we have more than enough players with some talent who are prepared to run their boll0x off for the shirt from the games I’ve seen.
It does make me feel better only being a win away from the next club. I think getting off the bottom would be a huge psychological boost. This team wants to stay up and are working hard to do so. Not sure about other teams but I know Stoke fans for eg. are sceptical of their players commitment.
On the basis that replacing the whole back 4 in January is unrealistic I would prioritise a Right Back and 1 Centre Back. We will all have differing opinions about who would get the other CB slot with a new body there - I’d go with a fit Halme.
