Looks like we could be building a decent team here. Patience needed, but our best transfer window ever may not have been the disaster many thought. Respect to Struber, he's come in and changed it up. That losing mentality is fading and the potential is revealing itself. Disappointed to have only drawn today, given the performance.
The good thing is that they kept their heads up after that start. Always looked as though we could score, just a pity it took whilst the 90min to do it
Tbf a draw was the fair result. I personally thought the players would come good, just having the experience earlier would have helped them learn quicker.
This manager has got these players organised and playing with purpose. the tactics are clear. the players mindset is positive and their belief is total. combine all that with their commitment to the red shirt and their undoubted bond and skill and we get a group who are capable of surviving.....despite all the negativity previously shown in this place. well done lads. keep this momentum going. well done Gerhard for bringing us some excellent leadership and footballing know how to the club in a very challenging league.
I personally thought that Johnstone kept Brom in it - a game of 2 keepers - a howler by one (but redeemed himself later) & a world class performance by the other
Personally, I felt we deserved all three points over the 90 minutes . If that is a table topping multimillion pound side there was little evidence of it today. As individuals, apart from Pereira, we matched them for skill, determination and pace. Pereira was outstanding but our previously dodgy defence kept him pretty ineffective for 90 minutes. They were clearly rattled and time wasted for most of the match. Complacency MAY have played a part but so what, pros should never take other teams for granted and expect them to be easily rolled over.
Negativity or genuine concern? We all hope that the season is turning around, but our summer activities were extremely disappointing regardless.
Still lacking quality in the squad, we had nothing on the bench that could change the game. When our strikers arent firing chaplin/brown we have nobody to mix it up same goes for midfield. Id say were still lacking depth in all areas. Great point today tho.
Read the stats Redhelen we were that far in front in terms of possession goal attempts and corners. Really enjoyed the game we're starting to merge into a half decent team.
To a large extent West Brom were happy to run down the clock never say die attitude is embedded in this team would have been an interesting finale if we had scored 10 minutes earlier.
We could have had Thiam, Wilkes or even Cavare on the bench I presume. All of whom might be a wild card. Our coach appears to be going with those he trusts. And we played great today. And got our reward.
GS seems to have a clear idea of his style, preferred 11 and subs. This consistency of approach and personnel should help development. Continued work on the defensive off-ball work and shape should have us able to give any team in this league a very competitive game - with the difference that we come away with points. Very interested to see what we do in the window.
fair point old gimmer. in truth probably a mixture of negativity and concern. I just find that the negativity (not unusual.in football fans) can sometimes get nasty and vindictive; and that doesn't help the players, some of whom will Dion into this forum. I've long since been banging on about this group and us fans having patience with them. at oakwell the support has been superb. it would be nice to see that reflected on here when we're losing. I'd also disagree that the summer was as disappointing as many make out. I agree that a couple of experienced players would have been great but, in my opinion, the new recruits are growing and developing more quickly under this manager. just my opinion.
We seem to be playing with no fear at the minute and some of our football is that of a promotion chasing side .Keep it up lads.
