I have it on good authority that they started the Australian bush fires, engineered Brexit, and orchestrated our separation with Daniel Stendel. I'm also blaming them for the time I trod on a nail twice in the same day. Utter ********, they are.
I guess I didn’t express myself very well. I don’t blame Sky for VAR and I don’t think that me as a Barnsley Barry would have any effect on whether it gets changed. I just can’t stand watching match after match ruined by VAR. My only avenue to protest is to stop watching. No point in subscribing to Sky Sports if I don’t watch the footy.
Definitely offside. Wolves player was getting a clear advantage his hand being offside lol. what an absolute joke. How are payers supposed to stay onside if they have to keep every single part of their body behind the last defender. will end up giving a massive advantage to the defender as players won’t dare even try to be level incase their toe or finger strays offside
I think VAR could be good if it is applied properly and with a bit of common sense. I'm hoping if it is to stay then these offsides are more blatant than an armpit or hand etc. I dont think that is what it was intended to get rid of.
VAR’s fine in Europe & international competition it’s just the dreadful way the FA use it in England that’s the problem
My lads (Jr. Didcot Reds 1,2 & 3) agree broadly with the sentiments expressed here. My view is that the VAR was introduced as a result of TV replays proving that the referee had made a mistake. The issue is that it should be used to correct clear and obvious errors. The big problem, but not the only one, is the very marginal offside decision. To my mind offside is offside even if it is very marginal. In the old days an attacker level with a defender was ruled offside. This was changed in favour of the attacker resulting in "level" being onside. Marginal offside is still to be offside. If this rule is not used we then enter into a debate into when does marginal become not marginal? My big problem with refereeing is the acceptance of "that is not enough of a foul for a penalty to be awarded". Foul play is foul play anywhere on the pitch. Why do pundits repeatedly come out with that mantra. If it is foul play outside the penalty area it is foul play inside the area. Braver referees would result in fewer offences in the penalty area.
Don't watch much Premiership football so not too familiar with VAR but it seems the VAR technology is accurate and the decisions are right so I can't see what the problem is - DR as you say 'marginal' offside is still offside.
It really all boils down to how you define “ a clear and obvious error”. Personally I would say that should mean something that the ref/assistant ought to have seen between them. However the fact is that VAR people aided with all that technology are often taking 3 to 4 mins to come up with a decision even Superman would have struggled to see in real time . It is turning the game into an utter farce and either the rules need to be redefined or it should be scrapped altogether.
Clear and obvious will never be applied to Offside. You are either onside or offside. I think VAR is POO POO and agree that a left big toe should not be offiside but if it in front of the lat efender then it is. SCRAP OFFISDE all together is my view.
Agree, a similar system to cricket. If the appeal is upheld you keep your appeal to use again, if it's wrong, it's used up.
Agree that offside either is or isn't. It's ok people saying "but he wasn't much offside" and moaning but what about if the same principle was applied to goals? Quick check on the camera "yeah it's in but it's not in very far so let's say no goal". Everyone agrees goalline tech technology works and the reason we all agree that is because of how quick it is and the reason it's quick is that humans are taken out of the equation and computers are used to give the answer practically instantly. To get the supporters on board it needs speeding up and also needs simplifying. Sensor on the body worn in the same place for all players, logically one sensor has to be further forward than the other. Whichever is forward when the ball is kicked is offside.
Petition here which is up to 12,000 and rising rapidly https://www.change.org/p/the-premie...ant-referee-var-from-premier-league-football?
The trouble is I think, that the offside rule has always been a great rule that has been almost impossible to accurately enforce. That’s the enigma, it’s a split second thing. Imagine an attacker running back to get onside as a defender runs in the opposite direction and they cross just as the ball has been kicked 100 yards away. (and bear in mind that you have to define what cross actually means) In the history of football, that has always been a judgment call from the referee. Judgment, interpretation, a feeling, assessment of the situation even probability. Offside has always been a human decision and even though the rule is black and white, the upholding of the rule never has been. Computer technology doesn’t have the skills needed to interpret the situation so that’s why I think VAR is not very good for offside.
