according to this https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50914064 but seems he will play some of the game.
I don’t think any sane manager would throw an elderly and unfit Wayne Rooney in against an energetic U23 Barnsley team.
He has played a total of 2 games in 3 months in MLS standard football. There is a difference in being fit and being match fit.
But commercially he has to play, I reckon this one is out of the managers hands. I read somewhere that the betting company Red32? Or something like that have paid for Rooney to wear the 32 shirt! Everything that’s wrong with the game! Hope we piss all over his parade.
He'll play some part even if a granny pulls his groin at a party tonight....the game has been moved for that sole purpose.
I hope he starts. He's coming from a league of poor standard and won't be match fit after no game in 10 weeks. At 34 with his millions safely in his bank and achieved all he has I aren't sure of his enthusiasm in playing outside the top flight of his homeland.
I read somewhere that Rooney seems to think the MLS and the Championship are the same standard, he may be in for a shock.
Hes gonna stand in centre circle and do naff all like he did for england in his last 2 years under woy boy. I hope he plays. Ref will be gagging to give them a pen tho.....
That is what we as a club should prepare for. The entire game is not about Barnsley, it’s an event. Watched by millions on TV. Derby are darlings of the media anyway. They’ve flouted the EFL rules for years and haven’t received any of the hammer that Wednesday have, despite doing the same level of cheating. They play two players who crashed cars whilst drunk but sacked their long standing captain for being in the crashed car and left there injured, because at his age he’s worthless to them. An horrible club with horrible fans. Like you say, they will want the fairytale on Thursday. The ref will do his upmost to engineer them that opportunity. Barnsley players must not get drawn into it all. We are up against the elite in this game. If we start 2020 with a positive result, we will have worked a miracle.
I'm hoping that Rooney will be Derby's Mido. Overweight, overpaid, and over-enthusiastic to the point of lunacy.
Speculation is that he could play. They apparently have three key players unavailable so it could be a good time for us to be playing them. Derby County v Barnsley: Wayne Rooney set for Rams debut http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50914064
Agreed. Even to the point of attempting to limit their liabilities by classifying him as a “player coach”.
Would imagine he’ll start. They’ve got a couple of players out & played with 10 men for the majority of their last game which was a day later than ours so they’ll probably need to freshen it up a bit. It’s not like he’s coming back from injury, he should’ve been training every session with them & should be as fit as any 34 year old normally is after a full pre-season.
