It’s a mindset problem, want to score runs, want to stay in, concentrate! T20......the death of cricket.
Unfortunately all the ECB seem interested in is this new 100 ball competition. As I said during the first test, until the county system ( 4 day cricket) is completely overhauled then we won't produce players good enough to compete at test match level. Wouldn't be surprised to see Broad and Anderson pack it in after this summer's home test matches but Archer aside and maybe Wood (he always seems injured) I don't see any real quality coming through in the bowling department. I called on Joe Root to resign after this summer's ashes series but in all honesty who is going to replace him?
After my post we lost a couple of wickets in no time and I will take blame for that sorry We have to hope that Pope can get us to 300. He's one of our best players and not just because others are rubbish. After just 1 score of 400+ all last year it's about time batting got sorted.
Burns injury was unfortunate as I fancied him to score heavily in this test. Crawley is not a test opener. And if our middle.order fails we now have a long tail end who won't score many (Archer Broad Anderson) And we will.really struggle to take 20 wickets with little pace and no experienced frontline spinner and Stokes not 100% to bowl long spells.
Well well. A day when England’s batsmen actually batted test match style. Shame Root was out with only a couple of overs left but at least it was to a great ball rather than him doing something daft. Assuming the middle order can bat for once we shoul be aiming to declare about 400 in front just after lunch.
Sibley batted well, Root didn't throw his wicket away and we are in a strong position. Bess wasn't so good as night watchman and I thought we might have gone a bit quicker with the run rate. Anything less than 1-1 isn't good enough.
Why don't batsman drop their hands and get out the way of bouncers if they aren't going to pull? Bess gave it away.
probably because its not his specialist job, and he's got .4 of a second to make a decision and carry out the action of that decision before the ball of 90mph is at his end, sometimes aiming straight at your head
He was a night watchman and lasted long enough to ensure Stokes didnt need to bat for a few balls last night - that was his job done - in any case getting out has turned out quite good as Stokes has done OK this morning until about 1 minute ago - we should be able to declare with at least a day and a half remaining.
