391-8 declared. After only getting one score of 400+ last year I would have tried to get 9 more runs before the declaration.

Me too but declaring shows complete supremacy in a match.

I would have declared as soon as Stokes got out.

I think they got the declaration about right - problem is we arent taking wickets - we could still lose this if we cant get them out - if they are still only a couple down at tea tomorrow I could see them having a punt - if we had declared earlier there would be a real risk of defeat as the pitch seems to have gone to sleep

Still a huge ask for Sputh Africa to get anything from this test match.

Phew we finally got a second wicket - we definitely haven't won this yet but at least it makes it less likely SA will be in a position to chase the total later tomorrow - they only need just over 300 now with 8 wickets in hand

Perfect weather all through the test, going to day 5 with all results still possible and some folks want test matches shortened!!!

Make an England win as slightly most likely result, with draw not far behind. Slim chance of SA win.

Will be some difficult decisions for the selectors in next test, with Archer, Leach and Wood available.

Will they bring in a new opener with Sibley?

Going to be hard work to win this now. Far too much spin bowling and with the partnership put on they are used to it no. Need to go back to the seamers.

Problem is Jimmy is off sick again and the other seamers didnt seem to be making much progress - needs a couple of quick wickets and its game on again

Missed a Leach / Ali / Rashid figure badly today.

There's talk of Jennings going to Sri Lanka, which makes sense given he has a half decent record in Asia. Can't imagine him being picked to play in SA though.

Sky so nearly missed it too. Some great slip catching towards the end. Well played, England.

I think Stokes has put to bed any talk of him becoming a specialist batsman with a match winning spell like that.

Archer will come in for the next test, for either Curran or Anderson, depending on how confident they are in Anderson's fitness. I fear that could be time for Anderson, the ability is still there, but that's the second time in three tests that he's broken down.

Stokes again. Let's go on and win the series 3-1 now. The perfect advert for keeping tests at five days.

A mention for Dussen who faced 327 balls in the game. It got him a half century in the first innings and dug in facing 140 balls for just 17 runs trying to save the game. Some of our batters can learn from the patience he showed.
