It's that time of year again folks. Which album(s) rocked your world in 2019? Did you have Taylor Swift on repeat play, or was it Now That's What I Call Music volume 103? Nick Cave's latest offering, or Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker soundtrack album? I may as well admit it's an easy winner for me, because I only bought one new release in the whole year. But that said, the Cats In Space album "Day Trip To Narnia" was a gem, and highly recommended to anyone with a love of 70s rock/pop music. A belated thanks go to @starbreaker for tipping me off about this band in the equivalent 2017 thread. I doubt I would have heard of them otherwise. I'm hoping for similar inspirations in this year's thread. My second place selection is a cheat, because while I did buy this last year, it was actually released in 2012 (so only seven years behind - for me that's pretty current!). "Love and Endings" is a lovely live recording by No-man and is well worth a listen IMHO. Enjoy - and please share your faves from last year.
Bruce Springsteen ‘Western Stars’. Nothing has come close. At 70, he delivered arguably the finest album of his career.
Some seriously impressive guitar playing there, especially after the 5.00 mark. It'll be a long time before I pick up my guitar after watching that.
I had the CD bought for Christmas. You have no idea how many hints I had to drop. If you like guitar playing try this (off the same CD).
Billy Strings - Home (although his previous album Turmoil and Tinfoil is also incredible) Progressive/Psychedelic Bluegrass. Quite easily some of the finest flat picking I've ever seen by a lad who is only 26. He's taken a traditional genre and completely reinventing it (it veers into thrash acoustic metal at points) whilst still staying true to its roots. I wasn't a bluegrass fan before hearing him. Playing live the guy and his mates are absolute monsters. With so many of their songs improvised at each performance (with crazy solos) meaning you rarely hear the same song, or set twice.
After the first track I was ready to put my guitar on E-bay. By the end of all three, I'm ready to turn it into firewood. Jaw-droppingly good - and now on my To Buy list.
