Sums it up today really. More talent than them, gulf in league positions. We all heard the comic commentary from Robins TV. Fave was "he's won himself a foul there" happened loads. How many times do our our inexpereienced (but talented) players "win" themselves a foul. A few times they were flattened from behind, difference is Bristol players "bought" a foul our players didnt even go down. Modern game. We have zero craft at it and zero experience. Imagine if we had signed Ashley Williams instead of Bristol? We'd be safe now. I have the greatest respect for these young lads. They have suffered defeat after defeat and their heads have never dropped. They have always given 100%. That is amazing but I am sick to the back teeth of this dogmatic board. One, please one, experienced (in this league or higher) defender would have made all the difference
Same old same old. The board knew we needed experience from before we got promoted. Its so annoying that they have ignored this and are continuing to do so .
I really do feel for these lads Helen (if I can presume to call you that). They give their all and there is talent there. In my line of work we gave lads (and lasses) a guiding hands and brought them on. These have had nothing and may yet find their way but I fear it may be too late
Course you can call me Helen. I love watching the young uns and it's a good strategy to have but when two managers, tv pundits and the fanbase are all calling for experience then the board need to listen. But unfortunately I dont think they really care. We may well lose Struber too if he's not backed.
Thank you. I do actually think if we could keep the core of this side into next season with a couple of wise old heads thrown in we could have something special. Did you see in the second half how jacob spun three of their players off the ball with his first touch?? I love him and a couple of the others too, Mowatt , Woodrow, Halme , Odour even jordan williams and yes in a couple of seasons you can see Diaby progressing. BUT they need that guiding hand. Cant the board see this, even in terms of developing our own talent we need a couple of wise old heads
Must disagree. We lost because we didn't put away our chances. We didn't make too many defensive errors and credit the opposition for the goal they scored.
Hi David, that was a game we could have got something out of, maybe even all three points. We made a few errors, their finishing wasnt at its A game but most teams are like that in this league. We lack the experience to shut a game out with five minutes to go. How many points has that cost us this season?
What about the winning goal at Millwall, equaliser against Bistol City, and equaliser against Derby. For all the points last minute goals might have cost us, we've earned some as well.
WTF, I'm expressing an opinion. Why be so antagonistic? Do you actually go out or just exist on a keyboard?
I do think that Brown is emerging as the most promising talent in this side. I think he'll be off in Summer. As for the rest of the squad, if they stay together then I think they have every chance of bossing League One just as their predecessors did last year. But how much fun is it watching us beat inferior sides in a poorer league only for the emerging talent to be sold once they have achieved promotion? Then follows the inevitable struggle in the Championship. And this is not just a fear, let's remember - it is the stated policy of our Board. It's becoming almost cynical. I strongly suspect our incoming players are already eyeing the next move before they get here. And you have to wonder if regular relegation to League One is the window to showcase our developing saleable assets in a less competitive setting. Some call for patience. But that is not the point. Nothing is being built while every player is a saleable asset. There are 12 days left for the Board to show they are serious about stability in the Championship by bringing in more experience to assist the developing talent. But I'm not holding my breath.
I suspect you (and others) know my views, but there's still 12 more sleeps before I can let rip again. I wonder if my views will change.....?
I don’t necessarily agree with the view that we had more talent than them. I thought we matched them. It felt like a game that could’ve gone either way but because there was that many chances one side could’ve easily ended up winning by 3 or 4 if they were more clinical than the other. Whilst it’s great that we’re matching & sometimes outplaying sides with more talent the issue for me is that for all our graft & improvement if we’re making it an open game then the team with the most quality is always more likely to take their chances. However I love watching us play & still feel like we have to take the game to opponents as we simply don’t have the experience or type of defenders to sit deep & play on the counter.
