Why can't professional footballers kick a ball under the crossbar rather than ten feet over it. We see it at Oakwell and tonight wba took great delight in blazing the ball as high wide and not very handsomely as possible.
As much as I love to see us scoring, the benefits of a solid defence were there for all to see tonight. Mind you, it also helps when the opposition are woeful. Hard to believe both those sides are above us on that showing. Awful game.
Just shows how much we have to look after our own destiny as much as we can. Can’t look to others for favours
I was thinking that watching butland he was excellent. We need to catch brum or huddersfield or derby forget stoke.
I suspect Martins Indi has as many international caps as Bambo and Mads have championship games between them. Their back four will have more pro games than our entire squad at this or a higher level. Organisation and experience. Speaks volumes.
I'd be a lot happier if we could just sort out the organisation side of that equation. You don't need to be an experienced pro to get the basics right. Stopping opposition players meandering down the line and putting their crosses in, tracking back, man-marking... I'm not asking for the moon.
For me that game underlined the yawning gap between the Championship and the Premiership. West Brom and Leeds remain in the top two and must still fancy their chances of going up automatically. If they manage to do it , on the basis of tonight's performance Albion would have to spend a lot of money to even have a chance of staying up and like Villa and Norwich would probably struggle. You have to admire Chris Wilder and his players for bucking the trend. They are doing well this season, but once they are fully "sussed" out , unless they add some quality, they too could suffer in following seasons.
They've lost 16 games, they're four points above us, with all this experience, some of it earning 80 grand a week. Speaks volumes.
9 points from 15 got us back to level terms with 4th bottom by 29th December and only in the bottom 3 on goals, fast forward 1 month and 5 from the last 15 has now put us back to 4 from safety, just showing how consistent we need to be to have a chance, We need another good run with some wins, I just hope the terrible start just hasn’t given us too much to do.
I feel it's too late now, they have to win every other game, the pressure on them is immense. The mistake of recruitment and not getting rid of DS sooner,it's all becoming clearer as the season progresses.
We only need to win a few games and for some other club to freefall. Not beyond the bounds of possibility. Charlton are doing everything they can to help us, we just need to get our act together. Starting tonight.
