We'll use video evidence of our matches as his defence (or lack of ) ;)

Failed a drugs test in November, needed a centre half even before that news became public and our lovely owners have signed so far a grand total of zero of them. Knowing for the best part of two months that Diaby could be unavailable at any time and that we needed experience in the back line anyway, it's such a poor way to run a business to let the team struggle on.

Is he officially no longer allowed to play for us then?

Please do not judge him before we know all.the facts.

It could be a genuine error.on his part

He is told by the medical team what he can and cannot take.

He may have been very naive.

Let's see when we have all the facts.

Exactly. If he’d failed a drugs test, the Club would have told the supporters. They wouldn’t have lied to us making up some nonsense about an injury.

The clubs staff seem leakier than our defence at the moment.

This. For all his mistakes, Diaby has a physical presence that I don't see in Anderson or Halme. In fact, the two of them combined don't have his physicality. At least Diaby has learned how to clear his lines, the other two couldn't kick their way out of a paper bag.

Much as I don't like the gutter press, I doubt they would publish something so far wide of the mark without something to back it up. I would also expect the club to make an official statement denying it and standing behind one of their staff.

They don't give you the results of the drugs test there and then. You give a sample, it goes to a lab, along with all the other hundreds of samples taken that week from men and women in all sports. Etc etc etc
We've no idea when the player and the club were informed of the failed test other than knowing for certain it wasn't the day of the Blackburn game.

Surely it depends on the circumstances though. Performance enhancing steroids are one thing. Error with over the counter cold remedy is totally different. Need to know the circumstances to have any real idea. But I’d say there is a very good chance he is out for the rest of the season 2 Centre halves needed now for certain

For athletes in other sports (athletics, cycling, etc), the entire responsibility is on the athlete. They can be advised by medical staff or team doctors, but the final decision is theirs alone and they have to face the results of their decision. The restricted list is publicly available and to take anything on it they need a medical exemption certificate.

Plenty of cases of athletes missing the Olympics because of a nasal decongestant, cough medicines or other seemingly trivial cases.

Most unfortunate one I remember was one of our Skiers Alan Baxter in a winter olympics a few years ago won a bronzw medal in the slalom but then failed the drugs test. Reason was a Vicks Inhaler The UK version was fine to take but the US version contained levMethamphetamine which although not a stimulant itself is banned as its part of a group of stimulants. Everyone accepted the explanation and he was initially given a 3 month ban ( really 1 month as most of it was out of season) but this was overturned on appeal - He lost the medal though

If Bambos case is similar I would be surprised at a lengthy ban but at the moment we have no idea what has really happened.
At least we lost the Blackburn game so unlikely to have the result overturned

He was the one that came to mind (except I couldn't remember his name), but plenty of other examples. It all depends on the substance and the reason.
