Yes mate which is why i wanted us to find out what brentford were offering in wages, offer more and keep him for an extra year (so 2 years). If we had to give him say £18 grand per week, like a million per year, we would have had more points on the board and use the £8 million to purchase a proper replacement.
My issue isn't totally with the sale of the players. They wouldn't sign new deals and wanted to move elsewhere for more money as often the case in modern football. We really had to sell or keep unhappy players for a season until they went on a free. My issue lies with the stubbornness shown to only sign young players. We spend every other season essentially starting from scratch having to rebuild most of our side as we sell on key assets and buy new youngsters with 'potential' who need time and coaching to unlock the potential. I am all for signing youngsters and selling them on, but we need to aid them by having a few older heads around to help them through games. Take the side that Pinnock went to as an example. They sign lots of exciting young players from overseas and the lower leagues like us. Now I know that they have been established in this league a lot longer than us and operate on a slightly higher budget due to recent success, but they signed lots of good youngsters in the summer just gone (Mbwemo, Pinnock, Jensen etc.) but they also went and got some experience in the shape of Pontus Jansson to help the others out. That is what we needed to do.
They should have been working hard to get deals done since it became clear their summer business rather than being the best window ever was a complete **** up. But no doubt they've got to wait until their targets are allowed out of school before they can sign em. Get ready for some U21s from a European third tier league coming over on the last day of the window.
as i have said before, there is something dodgy about the whole set up with our owners, they have owned Nice and got rid, they have tried to get involved with other football league clubs, also partick thistle but failed. surely this says there is something not quite right
Not many clubs in our division have done much in the transfer market so far especially teams around us. Luton Wigan Charlton For example Even Leeds WBA Brentford have been quiet. Let's see where we are at come February 1st.
