To loosely quote Keith Hill, we are shopping in Aldi, not Waitrose. No wonder we are signing a lot of Germanic players.
This is the problem. People forget that if you're signing people on a free the players available are a) likely unwanted for a reason and b) want fat wages if they are good enough. Anyone to buy with the experience and quality we need is likely to be a) expensive and b) want big wages. We could have tried to keep some of our sales at CB, but if they want to go then there's really not much you can do, apart from tell them they can't leave - which wouldnt work in any other job.
@Jay Is not happy about Struber signing players from his homeland. I then asked @Jay to list me players from Britain who we should sign instead. He said I was being an idiot. Am I? His suggestion of ethnic nepotism has left me a little perplexed.
Loves a sliding tackle. Can't wait for that to be coached out of him and all those tackles become tippy tappy pass backs to Radlinger.
I hope the league he plays in is as quick as the Championship - otherwise he'll be spending a lot of time in the sin bin!
To be fair, it's not his job to recruit players. But he's well within his rights to comment on recruitment as a Barnsley fan/customer. Or are we not allowed to do this any more? Edit: I don't agree with his stance on the nationality of our signings, but he's entitled to his opinion.
The manager's only been here a couple of months and he's signing players he knows and has worked with before with the aim of keeping us up. I have no problem with that for this transfer window. If we're still signing players exclusively from the Austrian league come the summer or next January then I'd start to think about whether it was a problem. Anyway, I think this has all the hallmarks of an excellent signing if it comes off.
But we can afford to buy loads of cheap young players in the hope that if you throw enough against the wall some of it will stick?
That’s exactly it, it’s a numbers game the more you get the more chance of finding one. From a football perspective it makes more sense to buy a few good players but from a financial aspect it makes more sense to buy more young ins.
The 'plan' could be false economy but it only takes a couple of players to make it and we'll earn a few quid. Remember, were not just a football club anymore but also a company, a business that merely buys and sells assetts.
So, lots of footballing entertainment and ambition to look forward to then...not. I’ll stick to watching streams when I can for the foreseeable if this is the case.
