Maybe the club have faith and trust in this manager?

Nothing I've seen under this ownership would suggest to me they give two tosses what you or I think. And that's not a dig at them either.

I agree. It was ridiculous of them to part company with a bloke who'd tried to engineer a move to another club whilst on an unbelievably bad run of results, and replacing him with a bloke who's breathed new life into the crazy idea that is stopping up, and backing the new bloke.

    Condemn them.

They only came out with this once Struber was appointed. I' don't remember his name being linked at any time other than when he came here. I'm a bit sceptical on this.

I suppose time will tell as to whether he can manage a championship side. I just wish he'd had the chance to get the experience he wanted. At the very least, even if he wasn't up to the job then at least we may have had more points on the board.

To me though it's telling that the minute Struber didn't have a full squad to choose from he's struggled. Daniel didn't have Brown, Dougall, Diaby, Radlinger at his disposal all the time. Don't get me wrong I think Gehrard is doing a great job but that doesn't mean Daniel wouldn't have given the same conditions. Middlesbrough stuck with Woodgate and now they're doing well.

If they didn't trust him then they should have started the championship season with someone else. When they were lapping up the plaudits for his brilliant managerial spell there was no hint they didn't think he was up to the job. And if the right players were in for Stendel then Struber, who they supposedly have more faith and trust in should be able to manage just fine without amy experienced additions.

You seem to be close to things at the club, so much so that several posters have suspected you work for the club. If you are that close, you'll know that your description of what happened with Stexit is not the full story.

But anyway, that's not my point. My point is why do I never bump into random fans that back the board? I'll do some further research at Portsmouth this aft.

The two new Austrian lads are welcome developments and hopefully a sign of more flexibility. No departures before next Saturday would be another welcome sign. I still feel that the Board's summer dealings will have cost us our Championship place. Communications are still an issue after the Stendel debacle (which now seems miraculously forgiven) and the late information about Diaby's situation.

Anyway, here's a Saturday morning teaser: Are Brentord a bigger club than us?

I don’t think question holds any relevance in this day and age. Players tend to choose clubs on division, and more importantly money.

There’s no reason we can’t do as they are though, but it’ll take time.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Did he try to get a move because they completely refused to back him?

Or maybe they were going behind his back to see if Struber was willing to come as they'd supposedly been tracking him for ages? -The plot thickens!

Really depends on how you define bigger. In many ways they are similar but what does set them apart is the amount of investment from their owners.

Barnsley run a self sustainable approach with no benefactor input. Brentford have had over £100m investment from their owner Matthew Benham.

With that amount of investment coupled with their new stadium I’d say Brentford are a much bigger club.

Precisely. I wondered what Matthew Benham's net wealth might be but I can see no information on that (reliable or otherwise).

It's worth very little because we didn't actually sign any, but we were speaking to slightly older players with a lot of experience all summer. They either didn't want to come or we couldn't afford them. It's no surprise to me that the two we've now managed to bring in already have a relationship with Struber - without Struber Ritz and Sollbauer most likely aren't coming to Barnsley.

Or was he totally signed up to the principal of the club and only changed when he realised he couldn’t achieve what he thought he could, or did he realise he was out of his depth? Any and all possibilities , we’ll never know.

That's a good point, but if the board really couldn't get anyone in then it's even more barmy that they let Pinnock, Moore and even maybe Lindsay go.

We know that by the time of the Tykes tv intwrview at least he definitely wanted experienced Championship players. We also know he likes working with the younger players. He probably, like the rest of us, didn't realise it was set in stone and that he'd be losing his defence. (Davies excepted)

Self sustainable? Granted, they’re investing in a new stadium, but they’ve been running on fairly sizeable losses for the last six, or more years.
