I hated Potts in the Championship (thought he was powder puff) until about the last ten games of the season then he came alight. It was too late for the Championship but he tore league 1 a new one and got his dream move to Preston.
Being a bit harsh there Nudge. Brown is as yet too inconsistent. There is a good player in there though. Me saying Brown is one of our better players on his day, is not saying much at the moment. He has more potential than Potts had.
Let’s just sell our best young player Cos we can get a couple million for him... if we sell brown I think it’s clear where the boards intentions lie. Making a quick buck. Brown is only going to get better and better
And still thinks he's vastly over rated . I'd snap their hands off .. no where near as good as the right sided mid-fielder we sold last January. Take the money and bring better in... Easy.
[QUOTE="Stephen Dawson, post: . It was too late for the Championship but he tore league 1 a new one and got his dream move to Preston.[/QUOTE] He really didn't. He had half a dozen decent games. He had many, many unacceptable games. We improved as a team when he left. My mate who supports Preston is bemused by him. "I don't get what he does." "He looks lost, all the time".
following on from the previous post about brentofrd - he matches their model - players that will cost a little bit say 1-3m (yes our lot will probably let him go for 3m given past performance) but they will literally 5-10x that in 1-2 years - which is the model we shoudl be following and avoiding the crap we have been signing. There isnt just the cost of the transfer - there is the cost of the development and resources inc time which will have to be ditributed across them all. We'd be better following brentford and signing a handful instead of 10+ and declaring the best window ever based on number of signings.... Quality not quantity.
He a nice lad is Brown and there’s a good footballer in there. But in order to develop he needs to be at a much bigger Club with quality coaching and ambition on and off the field. Brentford fit that description. But then again, compared to us so do Forest Green Rovers.
That’s a very sad statement indeed and just highlights how far this club has fallen behind similar historically sized teams although it could be argued we were once a bigger club in stature and support than Brentford.
Would be stunned if Brown left for £2million. It would have to be silly money. Same applies with Woodrow Mowatt and Chaplin. We need those guys here come February 1st.
But if we disagree on Moncur (and I take your points and can see why you'd think what you do) then there's a good chance a large group of us would have different opinions as wel. If the board and Stendel leaned towards the view that he wasn't needed and wasn't strengthening a rival (just because a team wants him doesn't mean it's strengthening) then you can understand why we got rid. Maybe we thought he would upset their rhythm and form? Hindsight is obviously a wonderful thing as he did score 3/4 goals. But I also remember a couple of reports of horror performances too.
Is he going to get better - I very much doubt it. As for being our best young player - he’s nowhere near that. That title goes to Oduor.
Disagree about him not getting better. That's why Brentford who are flying want him, that's why Everton were scouting him last season. Maybe you are right about Oduor though
Your entitled to that opinion but I think not and the stats suggest otherwise. As for bringing in better we would probley sell for 2million sign 4 players for 500k each from French 2nd division or austria and hope for the best. If I was him and he gets the chance I'd go to brentford. Ambitious club, good coaches, pushing in the right direction everything I would like my club to be.
They are prepared to pay money for ‘potential’. He won’t get in Brentford’s first team. We, as things stand, can’t afford to wait for potential. We need proper Championship level players now.
