Eh? It's 2.2%. Not a clue where you've got your figures from!!!

Not only is your answer wrong by a factor of around 100, you've got the digits wrong too!

I've been looking at the league table and doing some maths. If we continue at our current points per game record for the rest of the season, we'll end up on 3807 points and win the league. We Are Premier League!

Oh Sh*t!!!! A cheapSolar powered calculator that came free with a wallet. The input methodology was correct (or so I thought) i.e

    170 divided by 7711 multiply by 100 over 1
MS Excel gave the correct answer just now and the calculator is now in the bin. IT doesnt seem to recognise the second stage i.e. multiply by 100 after the parenthesis. (Don't understand how a calculator can malfunction in such a way) although I fully understand how my brain does these days:confused:
Having co*ked up on the aircraft conveyor quiz question and now this I (not) so eagerly await co^kup number three to add to my embarrassment.

Your answer was 0.0259, which should have been 2.59 because you got the decimal point in the wrong place. The correct answer is 2.20464272, which rounds to 2.20. Even your solar powered calculator should get that right, unless it's a particularly cloudy day.

And for your homework, Google BODMAS :D

That should be "I am a muppet". You've missed the "a" out.

Yep I know that one but always input parentheses anyway. I use Excel a lot (should have used it this time to save further embarrassment) The inaccuracy was my fault re the rounding typo but I still don't know why the calculator (now covered in coffee grounds and last nights leftovers) only processed half the formula. It actually gave a completely random output when I tried something else before binning it and a couple of 8s looked like nines so even the display is b*ggered!! (It is sunny here so no excuse.there) It is the phone or laptop from now on.

I'm not great at maths I must admit but you can work it out in your head very roughly as to whether it is in the right ballpark. I looked at what 10% of the total figure would be and then looked at whether their quoted figure constitutes a fifth or so of that.

Gooid job I didn't work on the Ariane project. A deiomal point in the wrong place could cause a malfunction during launch

    Oh!, hang on!!.......
On June 4, 1996 an unmanned Ariane 5 rocket launched by the European Space Agency exploded just forty seconds after lift-off. The rocket was on its first voyage, after a decade of development costing $7 billion. The destroyed rocket and its cargo were valued at $500 million. A board of inquiry investigated the causes of the explosion and in two weeks issued a report. It turned out that the cause of the failure was a software error in the inertial reference system. Specifically a 64 bit floating point number relating to the horizontal velocity of the rocket with respect to the platform was converted to a 16 bit signed integer. The number was larger than 32,768, the largest integer storeable in a 16 bit signed integer, and thus the conversion failed.
