Yeah I feel the frustrations completely was just trying to shed a slither of positive light whilst I cried myself to sleep lol
Experienced centre back? How much experience has he in the championship? Or even english football? He looked like a fish out of water at pompey
nobody doubts the skill of most of the team and yes we can stay up but we still need that old head to hold and steady the defence, even if itis from the touch line
I don’t mind them making money as long as there is something in it for the fans as well. Jazzing up the ponty end concourse, creating a fan zone and handing out chocolate at away games is skirting around the real issue, which is what is on the pitch. There has to be some balance between the two, or at the very least some evidence that they are trying.
Let's flip it the other way. What has the OP seen from the owners that is giving him the confidence that we are moving forward as a club? Have you swallowed their lies?
What makes you think that I disagree? The posts I saw yesterday accused the owners of lots of things and I couldn’t help but wonder what people’s expectations are from the owners and where they think Barnsley FC should be. I suspect most fans got overly excited by the prospect of a billionaire owner and were hoping they would plough loads of money in the club, or at least invest enough so that we’d no longer have to be self-sufficient. Unless you’re a top, top club there’s little profit to be made in football as teams constantly need investment. The higher up the pyramid you go, the costs increase, meaning the risk of losing a lot of money becomes greater. The recruitment strategy adopted by the club confirms that the best players will leave when the profit margin is large enough. Recent history also tells us that these outgoing players are only to be replaced by a new wave of cheaper youngsters ready to start the cycle again. Therefore, if the owners are only here to make money then they must be happy enough to continue to turn over a mediocre profit from the sale of players and retain some of this profit by reinvesting just a portion of that profit to start the cycle again. If this is the case then I’d assume there are other reasons they also bought the club as the profit margins aren’t great. Funnily enough these reasons have been covered in more recent posts on the forum this morning. I’m not praising the owners. Like most I’m actually disappointed with their tenure. However, I don’t think they’re happy to see us fail. Sticking to their strategy so religiously is bound to see us relegated and promoted over time - especially if a number of players mature at the same time and the cycle starts again in a higher league - that’s where fans are frustrated as there’s no growth. My opinion is that the owners are extremely risk averse and if they’ve made enough profit to cover the losses that come with relegation, they’ll take relegation over the greater risk of investing in players to try and stay in the league and failing.
That last paragraph says it all really. Being happy with relegation as long as costs are covered. Cracking.
I think that was the plan all along. Our poor players have a higher resale value following a successful league 1 season than a championship one in which they struggle.
