Has said he wont take charge of FA Cup Replay as he will be on a beach somewhere and no first teamers will play. The Reserve Manager will take charge and reserve players will play https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-fa-cup-17635037
Nothing to applaud him for. He’s devaluing one of the biggest competitions in England - personally we need to fight this it’s treading on our traditions of English football.
With just £3.6M to the winners there is no wonder Premier League clubs shun it - whether they're fighting for survival or the top spot. It cannot possibly be a priority for any Premier League club.
I think he’s got a point. A few managers are furious with the FA. They were told to keep the week completely free to give the players a rest & now several teams are playing that week in cup replays. On top of that the FA wouldn’t allow any compromise with the league cup clashing with the world club cup so they’ve already devalued their own cup competition once this season. Surely if the intention is to give the players a break so they’re fresher for the Euro’s then there should be no games. Good for England if TAA, Henderson, Gomez & the Ox get a bit of a break anyway.
No excuse for disrespecting lower league clubs, sheer arrogance , they shouldn’t be a allowed to get away with it.
Anyone would think Liverpool only have a squad of 18 players. I feel no sympathy for them whatsoever.
It's all just the usual mess the authorities make. They move the fifth round to midweek to allow for this winter break. Then shove 4th round replays into the gap.
No ones saying we should have sympathy with him I just think he’s right to be pissed off with the FA. We’ve had 4 of the last 16 winners of the champions league. That’s 1 in 4. Surely there should be some kind of effort by the FA to ensure we give our European champions the chance to compete properly for all 5 trophies? They can’t blame it on some kind of surprise as it’s happening fairly often. Klopp pretty much had to rotate today. He’s virtually had to play the same 11 all through the Christmas period, Fabinho, Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Matip & Lovren all been injured. The first team looked out on their feet Thursday against Wolves. All these foreign managers saying the English football calendar is madness can’t be wrong, Klopp, Mourinho, Hasenhutl etc moaning. Even lower league managers like Robinson at Oxford are moaning about it. Newcastle losing 4 players to muscle injuries in one game. Liverpool, Newcastle, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Everton all suffering with lots of injuries at once. It’s not coincidence. And then all the usual idiots will be giving it the ‘they don’t care’ or ‘they don’t try’ when our knackered players don’t perform for England in the Euros.
Thing that gets me ........ and I quite like Liverpool and Klopp. It's ok saying "the FA knew we were on a break" but surely LFC also knew there was an off-chance of a replay? Two things that don't sit right with me here: 1) Would they be taking the same stance if Man City had been their opponents, not Shrewsbury? 2) They have 96 fans they hold in reverence who may be turning in their grave that they are disrespecting the competition they gave their life to watch
Bloody hell thats a bit of a stretch to say what fans who died 30+ years ago would be thinking if they were alive today. Loads of people who used to care about the FA Cup don’t care anymore about it. Unfortunately it’s not got the same importance. I don’t think the opponents matter, they fielded a weaker side against Everton than the one that played yesterday against Shrewsbury.
In response to 1) I think they would. The sides they picked against Villa in the league cup and against Everton in the third round suggest that. In fact, the team they put out against Shrewsbury looked stronger than the team that beat Liverpool. In general, I understand the issue Klopp has. Why create a winter break, then schedule games within that time? But on the other hand, players like Matip, Lovren, Fabinho etc... might benefit from the game time.
He can play whoever he wants, under 16’s if he feels like it. But to say he won’t be there personally is wrong imo. He’s the manager, no excuses, do what your paid for
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/shrewsbury-boss-says-jurgen-klopps-21423555 Can't help but feel for Shrewsbury. Because of Klopp it's going to cost them half a million and it's going to be nothing more than a glorified FLT game because they will be playing kids nobody sees.
If they only win the PL this season it won't be that great a season . You re talking about delaying your break by a couple of days for the sake of ensuring you get through to the next stage of a cup competition you've not won for a while. Seems a bit silly to me.
