Terry Harper from Denaby, what a great fighter she is, well deserved world champion against a massively more experienced champion.
Meanwhile at the other end of the scale: Dave Allen. Seems like a nice lad who has a good personality but after his last loss and his subsequent negative (bordering on suicidal) social media comments after the fight, i'm surprised the boxing authorities and his promotor are still pushing forward with him. What the lad needs is a pathway out of boxing into another career because the path he's on right now with his speech already slurring and how he takes defeats is a very bleak one.
Unsubstantiated rumours that there was a lot of money on Allen to win by KO in the 3rd Round. Considering how inactive he was in the first two rounds it does make you wonder sometimes. Was it ever confirmed if he really was drinking I’m the bar the night before the Price fight? Price boxed well that night but Allen was even more limited than normal
He said in the interview after he wanted to go the full 6 rounds but Hearn stepped in before round three and told him to get going. Still a bit suspect mind watching the performance because there’s pacing yourself for the fight and then there’s just plain inactivity.
Kell brook looked decent on his comeback, the opponent wasnt anything special but i thought brook showed glimpses of his old self.
Is gunna end up seriously hurt if he carries on with the big heavyweights in that division, he's just not on that level. Obviously loves the sport so maybe a coaching career could be an option.
There’s nothing wrong with Allen fighting it’s just who they put him in with. He can be an attraction on undercards fighting at British / English title level as long as he’s coming to the ring in decent shape. Needs to stop been thrown in with world level fighters though, with his good chin he’ll only end up taking long beatings like he did against Ortiz, Whyte, Yoka & Price
Been sat at table next to him in Pret at Meadowhall this morning. A few people coming up and shaking his hand for the win last night.
