Norwich City 4 - Barnsley - Nil. My only time in Norwich and a guy who'd been on loan to us (Jamie Cureton?) was recalled for them and scored against us. Also remember them doing a half time thing with some of their old team with a guy who must have been in his 80's shimmying around the ground during their lap of honour. Also remember their segregation being a copper / steward on each row and comparing this to ours.
I went to Norwich in 2006. We lost 5-2 and had a man sent off. Remember something similar with the segregation. Our fans kept being ejected from the stadium by over zealous stewards and a few were met by police.
Not a victory but couldnt have been closer. 10th January 2004, freezing cold, lad and I drove down to Colchester for a Tuesday night game. Routine league game with IIRC nowt at stake. Mad as a box o frogs for even thinking about it. Got there late due to getting hopelessly lost in Cambridge and had to park over a mile from ground. Arrived just in time for kickoff. Packed away end and ONE WC toilet, no urinals. Played em off the park but had a man sent off , early on if memory serves. Battled away to what would have been a creditable 1-1 draw UNTIL...last minute of stoppage time, right in front of away end, a ground shot slips under keeper and trundles towards net, with said away end sucking it in. Inches from line, with linesman having turned to run back to halfway and fans celebrating wildly, I think it was Rory Falldown standing on the line decides to make sure and prods it home - at the precise moment the linesman turned to check over his shoulder. I'll never forget the look on his face as he gleefully raised his flag to chalk off a certain and well-deserved winner. Ref immediately blows for time and a now-less-than-creditable draw. Happy days.
Remember saying to my lad when we were 3 up that the points were in the bag. Five mins later it was 3 3! Fortunately Craig Davies bagged a brilliant winner....
I could have sworn Rory Fallon did the same thing in a home match. EDIT : Thinking about it, it could have been Nardiello
I hadn't realised we only won one nil until I just checked it up. Also, as stated, I always find it astounding how they Stockport (and Tranmere, Port Vale, Grimsby, Oldham, Bradford, etc) have fallen - or rather how lucky we are. I see those clubs listed as traditionally second tier. I suppose it shows my age.
The wife and I were guests of the match sponsor. They provided a free fixed odds bet, and I took Barnsley to win 1-0 and Hendrie to get the goal. We were led across the pitch just before kick-off and I could see my two sons waving at us from the Barnsley end. I was sitting in front of John Dennis in the directors box, and after Hendrie scored he tapped me on the shoulder and advised that I should calm down! As we went into the boardroom after the game I bumped into Sean Penn, who looked like he’d been slapped in the face with a wet fish. To top things off I won the sponsor’s draw which their chairman at the time, Mike McDonald, presented to me with as little grace as he could possibly muster. Totally forgettable day!!!
That’s the one. LOL. Howard Wilkinson was also there, wearing what looked like a Stetson. Not sure why I remember that after 20-odd years.
Not a victory, but was anyone else at Oldham away in the year when Chopra was here? Chopra and Boulding spent all game not passing to each other and trying to score the perfect goal. We battered them. 1-0 up after 80 odd minutes. Two set piece goals later and we'd lost 2-1. I remember Matt Carbon bollocking Boulding after the second went in as if to say "if you 2 hadnt been effing around we'd be out of sight" Freezing cold. Good times.
Early 80's begining of the season - might have been the first one after promotion to the championship (or 2nd division as it was called in those days) I think we were 3-0 down after about 15 minutes and some fans wanted to leave but the club wouldnt open the gates Seem to remember Tony Cunningham scoring the winner - may have been his home debut
Under hecky when we went to walsall and won 3-1 walsall were chasing the top 2 at the time and we really turned them over 3-1 just knew that were were going up after that game.
