A Wednesday fan I know thinks it will happend and they will be playing league one football next season
So the Football league can work out a nice safe amount of points to take off them like they did with Birmingham!
It's a bit unfair of them (And us and other relegation candidates for that mater) to make them wait really. If they're serious, can't they just do it now? I doubt they ever will though.
I mean. The point is that they have to decide how many to take off. They can’t just “do it now” if they haven’t gone through the proper channels for investigation.
I agree it is a farce the way the system works at the moment. It wouldn't take much to devise a scale so that Clubs would know up front what the punishment they would possibly incur might be. For example, the basic penalty could be circa 12 points with additions pro rata to the amount of overspend incurred up to a maximum of say 21 points. Just might encourage some Clubs to think twice when blatantly cheating.
agrred they have to go through the proper channels, but the amount of points must already be known. The FA/EFL/whoever can't be making it up as they go along.
A Wednesday fan at work says the investigation is complete and they’re expecting the verdict in the next couple of weeks. Not sure how true that is like....
Personally, I would have a standard penalty for failure initially so for example if you fall foul (fowl) minimum 12 point penalty with potential of more dependant on how extreme with relegation as the extreme. I would also introduce penalties to be decided in the off season Summer months.
It’s about time they got tough on FFP. The punishment for Man City is a start and hopefully will filter down. Fingers crossed.....
I also believe the whole financial side of football means FFP will always struggle. As an example: Promotion to PL estimated £170 million. Club spends £50mill over 3 years, so in excess. Now let’s work on premise SW get relegated what would that cost them £10million ish? So club is gambling £21 million against winning £170 million (minimum). That’s akin to us betting £50 to try to win £400. In short until FFP penalties are worse clubs will always gamble
The standard penalty should be relegation to L2. No appeals, no arguments. Clubs would know exactly where they stand and so would the fans. It's clear that the current "punishment" is no deterrent at all.
The penalty for all breaches of FFP should be relegation out of the entire football league at the end of the season. No it's, buts, sliding scales or grey areas. Cheating is cheating. Only then will it become an actual deterrent.
Perhaps even multiple offenders lose ownership of club and FA take over running club until new owner is found and club has to be self sustainable.
