Reyt goal. Watched the game. People on here probably seen that I go over and watch dundalk quite a bit, and a lot of the boys from there come over and support us. Shame about the result. It’s gunna be between them 2 all season for the title. Dundalk have won it for the last few years but rovers looking good this season.
It's surprising the level of interest there is in League of Ireland football in Yorkshire. My uncle was born in Londonderry and one of my earliest memories as a young football fan was looking through his scrapbooks charting the fortunes of his beloved Derry City. From memory, there was always a keen rivalry between Derry and Belfast based Linfield FC who for some reason, my uncle disliked with a passion. I never understood why back then, but since , have realised it had something to do with the Catholic/ Protestant divide that exists in the North of Ireland. I know that Derry and Linfield are in different leagues now, so the derby rivalry now exists between Linfield and Glentoran. My cousins still follow Derrys fortunes and I know a couple of Wakefield lads who became friends with a former City player and still go over for games from time to time. What appeal does the League of Ireland and Dundalk hold for yourself GTR.?
We had a friendly against Dundalk back in 2014. A few of us went over. Got talking to some of the Dundalk lads and ended up becoming good friends. So since then we go over a few times a year to watch them as they do with us. Been over for their last 2 FA cup finals at the Aviva stadium in Dublin, which ended up winning the first one against Cork 2-1. And losing on penalties the last one against Shamrock rovers. One thing I will say.. The support and atmosphere there is sumat different.
