Many of the boards backers when defending the lack of any real investment from the board since they took over often refer to Conways promise not to do anything crazy in running the club. Well my counter to that is they did do something crazy last summer they presided over the dismantling of the best defence in L1 for peanuts (Luton got £10 million for 1 defender we got nowhere near that for 2) and allowed an experienced keeper to walk out of the door. Then to make bad situation worse they allowed the joint top scorer to leave within days of the start of the season but the most crazy thing they did was not to replace these players with one's of equal ability but instead gambled on a set of untried foreigners and rejects from other clubs u23s being able to compete in the most competitive second tier league in world football then when given the opportunity to address their mistakes in January failed to do so adequately. Crazy doesn't even begin to describe the boards actions since the end of last season.
They didn’t dismantle the defence they wanted to go , Chaplins scored more goals than Moore this season , but yes the recruitment in the summer hasn’t worked ( yet) and the odds are we are going down
They allowed three contracted players to leave for less money than another promoted club got for one. We'd already signed Chaplin he wasnt Moore's replacement and scoring goals wasn't Moore's only input into a successful team. The recruitment hasn't worked and as failed already because it was supposed to make us competitive this season not next the Yet in your reply is nonsense if/when we are relegated the recruitment and retention policy as applied last summer will have failed and should be ditched.
Liam Lindsay and Ethan Pinnock would still be playing at Barnsley under the terms of their contract had our owners not opted to sell those contracts.
Marcus Maddison should still be playing at Peterborough under his contract, but he’s at Hull. There was a piece on here the other week from Darragh MacAnthony saying what had happened and what a disruptive influence he was in wanting to leave. I’m sure if he knew what the future held he’d have rather have sold him at the end of last season rather then let it unfold like it has once then player had said he wanted to leave. Maybe Lindsay and Pinnock would have been more professional, or maybe they wouldn’t. No one knows for sure, we can only speculate.
Of course. I mean we can judge them on their professional performances for us and always giving 100% (whether I rated Lindsay or not). Prefer we can just assume that they are dishonest players who hate bfc, would deliberately sabotage things to force a move. I know which I like to believe. Especially as there is absolutely not a shred of evidence to support the other. There is however a lot of evidence that if you don't do exactly what bfc want regarding contracts then they will do everything in their power to harm your career.
I am 100% certain Pinnock is more professional than Maddison. No club would touch Maddison with a barge pole due to his trouble makng. I do agree Lindsay appeared to have made up his mind if he wasn't even prepared to talk to the club.
It's worth saying though that I think most of us that were aghast at the sales did/do appreciate that these players would have been leaving at some point. It's just that that should not have been permitted until we had suitably competent and experienced defenders to replace them. If the cost of buying in that experience was greater then the purchasers of Davies/Lindsay and Pinnock should have been told to up their offers accordingly. We were left with raw recruits competing in a higher and more competitive league. That's just sheer stupidity and it alienates considerable numbers of fans.
That's exactly right. Yes the players mentioned wanted to leave- fair enough. But if someone wants to leave, you have to do 2 things: - get true market value for them. - sign suitable replacements. We did neither.
It is impossible to determine whether a player will perform at a suitable standard whatever division. It's all a gamble. Market value is only what someone will pay for a player. People were not prepared to give more. We got a good deal for a mediocre player in Lindsay. Ok,maybe we should have held out on Pinnock. Moore - I take the board at face value when they say they allowed him to leave, plus it was starting to impact on other players in the dressing room. Maybe the same would start to happen if we had forced Pinnock to stay.
Two points. How do you know people weren't prepared to pay more? We did our usual trick or caving to bids almost straight away. Secondly, you say take the board at face value. As they've consistently lied, I will do just that.
Actually they have been very clever with the wording there, their get out is , they didn't say they weren't going to do something fking stupid did they?
Maybe....maybe the 3 of them were horrible professional's, who would have made the dressing room unbearable. The outstanding facts here (as ever) is that transfers are only succesful if you then replace, with half decent replacements and imho we got this spectaculaly wrong in the summer.
The list is as long as Mr Tickle's arms - post by SuperTyke in the questions for Dane thread. They're made mistakes in certain areas, despite having good intentions. In other areas though, they have told outright lies.
Just looked through the questions from SuperTyke.. Not seeing anything in there that amounts to what you are saying about outright lies? Specifically what have they outrightly lied to us about?
Ok I'll bite. They initially said that there was a 21 word statement for legal reasons regarding the sacking of Stendel. Later, they said actually this was out of respect for him. Both can't be true - hence one is a lie. We were told Diaby had a knee injury. Then a national journalist broke the story that he'd failed a drugs test weeks before. Lies. We were told Reds Reserved Members who have access to many benefits over the season, as stated in the other thread. Quietly dropped after a few weeks. Lies. In October, he promised to be more open and increase communication with supporters. Lies In October, a question was asked about season ticket numbers. He refused to answer it despite knowing the exact number. Not technically a lie, but not a trait I want from my club. They all add up. Lie after lie.
