Technically that's not a lie - some like the Fan Zone. The majority of the matchday experience is garbage - warm beer and terrible service. But as we have some extreme board defenders on here, it's technically not a lie.
... Not looking to make people bite.. Just looking from differing viewpoints. Defo not saying the board have done everything right by any means. About the only one which seems a bit offside for me is the membership benefits that don't seem to have appeared.. For the others, there could be another side to the story, especially the Stendel one. Just to say as well the last one, the owners of the club regardless of who they are now or have been in the past have always never communicated the exact levels of season ticket sales, current owners have just done the same ie, say over X amount.
Sorry, maybe biting was the wrong turn of phrase. But when directly asked at a fans forum, and with the lady (who's name escapes me) saying she had the exact number to hand - we were refused the answer. Why? There obviously is something more to the Stendel story, but to give two completely different reasons for the same statement means that one is a lie.
1st point Your view of the sale is as much speculation as the assumption that we got the absolute best price. 2nd point Again; I’ve seen people suggest the owners are lying when they have just done exactly as they proposed. There’s no point arguing about it, your opinion of them is as valid as anyone’s, but no more so. so basically, those 2 strongly held beliefs are just that, they’re not ‘the truth’ they’re just what you choose to believe.
I just thought it was common practice that for cloak n dagger commercial reasons they never tell us the exact amount. Same under the Cryne era, they would say better than last year over X amount.. Suppose they have it in the back of their mind that they don't want to quote a figure and next year sell a few less and open up a can of worms.
That’s exactly what the owner of Bristol City’s says. He makes no secret of having to trade players but goes onto say they make sure they get top market value to enable the club to move forward, that’s the key.
@Fonzie I think the only one out of those bordering on a lie would be the membership benefits. But how do we prove there were no plans in place? I am one of those impacted on that but was more interested in the ticket priority element etc.. I'm a bit disappointed that points seemingly don't roll over from season to season though. Diaby thing, think the media may have broken the news on the same time club was made aware of it and Diaby was also actually injured, although we'll never know. Plus I think they expected things to not progress and no charges etc so may have been just looking to shield the player. Even if he is found innocent, some folk will still label him as guilty, this is todays society. Season ticket numbers, always been a bit of a closed shop no matter who has been in charge at Oakwell. They have given us rough figures though. Don't really agree about the comms issue, although the Stendel issue was a bit off, we have had QnA's through the supporters Trust. Etc.. There are only so many times they can answer the same questions lol.. I can think of far worse clubs than ours on this topic. I dunno TBH, it's how people view things I guess. I always look for a rational reason for things. Ever the optimist..
Fair enough. I've just noticed that we were arguing in this thread 6 months ago! Suppose we'll have to call it a draw.
There’s a bit more with Pinnock though Helen. He’s a very good footballer with the potential to be an excellent one. Clearly he would want to move his career forward by signing for an ambitious Club who want to scale the heights on and off the pitch. Brentford FC are a Club going places - Barnsley FC are not. That’s not an opinion; it’s a statement of fact based on the evidence of the last X number of seasons. Not only are we a selling club - which we’ve always been; we’re now a selling club from whom you can get players at knock down prices and to suit your timing, not ours. We should be better than that.
Match day experience... Isn't that more to do with the supporters trust and folk volunteering than Conway and Co... Dipping into their own pockets... In my opinion this lot are your typical cowboys... As many a Indian would say in the old westerns... .... White man speak with forked tongue... And the winner is..... Paul Conway...
I've almost given up arguing about it on here, I've made my decision and I'm sticking to it. I admire the 7000 or so who have stumped up to renew, but sadly, I'm not among them. It's not a football club any more, and I'm not financing it. I feel sorry for many of the hard working staff at the club, including the great media team, but the way the club is run is totally incompatible with my views, so I've simply given up.
we no longer make any decisions based on sporting advantage or ‘football’. The moment we stopped is the moment we ceased to be a football club I’ve bought a ST but only because I believe that without our support the owners will fold the club.
You're spot on its no longer a football club it's a retail outfit selling footballers success on the pitch is of secondary importance.
