I feel like those completely suicidal individual errors have been more post Stendel than pre, but that’s not a hill I’m willing to die on. It doesn’t really matter anyway now either. Our positioning defensively under Stendel left a lot to be desired, and, in my opinion, was a significant contributing factor alongside the lack of experience. Mistakes all over the place from Summer to now, in many different areas, but mainly recruitment.
Struber has a better ppg than Stendel, but if you put Struber in charge for the first half of the season, with a squad who don't know each other and don't know the league, and then give Stendel a squad with the benefit of 6 months of playing together and playing in the championship then I reckon he'd do at least as well.
Of course it is. Different teams at different stages of the season. And a manager who's had a huge advantage over the other in that one had to play inexperienced players who didn't even know each other and the other inherited players with 20 games experience in the championship together
He took over a team cut adrift at the bottom looking like they're going to beat the shittest points total. He got an experienced defender in January nearly two months after taking over, a player who folk said on here was ****. Wheres the advantage?
Clarke Odour was a revelation. He carried Mads Andersen for the first month by stopping anything coming in from his side. Connor Chaplin hit form. The only differences really
Form? You cant use form - why didn't the previous manager get this form or put new players in. He took over after 16 games by 8 games he had beaten the points total with the same squad. Does that ppg count?
Disagree there. The substitutions against Cardiff were proper head scratchers, but he’s adapted different tactics (maybe not formations) for different opponents, and got it right on a few occasions. The individual errors have left us without points in some of those games. Not many games where I’ve thought the tactics have been completely wrong. Obviously he’s got it wrong at times, but we were always going to be a bottom 6/8 team this season, so of course things won’t work out all the time.
Absolutely nuts to try and compare the two, all the arguments are flawed and in reality it’s just about opinions. Stendel did a great job last year, not so much from being a great tactician but the feel good factor he created around the club and town add to that the football and results he deserves the plaudits given. He reminds me of Kevin Keegan in that is a limited tactician but his enthusiasm and feel good factor he creates. Struber, in my opinion has done a decent job since coming in, has his flaws, doesn’t generate the ‘buzz’ Stendel does but is getting some results in difficult circumstances. He reminds me of Steve McLaren in that he goes about his business in a similar manner and at times seems to struggle to raise the players performance. As a result Stendel has currently got the edge because of the ‘buzz’
Struber is the owners man so for folk with an agenda against the owners, this is a major disadvantage. If the owners were liked we wouldn't be having this Stendel v Struber conversation. Stendel is seen as anti-owners after his dismissal, Struber the opposite. Struber could win the Champions League and he'd ****. We may as well continue talking about the virus, it'll be like groundhog day on here.
Likewise stendel was sacked by the owners so for those who have been banging on about how brilliant the owners are for a long time they instantly turned on stendel and struber can do no wrong. Works both ways
I think stendel got a young squad who mostly bar mowatt and woodrow had never played at this level, he had all his center backs replaced by 21 year olds who havent played in england before, moore replaced by schmidt davies went. Chances were as the season went on the young squad would get and get better. Stendel had jacob brown injured from most of his time this season and moore was sold the only 2 players who were capable of winning headers in the attacking half, it was clear the players were still playing for stendel his football was always attacking and good to watch apart from preston away. Struber has done okay he has made some strange decision for me though, dropping collins after one balls up v stoke then radlinger made the same mistake twice against west brom and swansea away and didnt get dropped. His persistence with anderson when it was clear to everyone he needed resting and was costing us at least a goal a game. Dropping bahre when he had been in arguably the best form of his bfc career to bring in his mate ritzmaier who offers nothing at all. The diamond formation that even though it has got results for me has us playing very narrow and has many players playing out of position. His silly substitutions on 20 minutes or so... why even start them.
