    I remember being in the West Lower, near the dugout for ‘that’ game. And when he got subbed off, to a standing ovation (well deserved, might I add) one of Pompey’s staff had a lit cig waiting for him.
    Some player though.

    His performance at Oakwell where we got beat 4-1 was probably as good an opposition performance as I've ever seen in watching the Reds for over 50 years. He hardly seemed to put a foot outside the centre circle,( a bit like the cameo appearances by Jan Molby a few years earlier) but he totally ran the game.

    Didn't he score a hat trick against us at Fratton Park. I seem to remember the Pompey fans singing his name for most of the second half.

    Was lucky enough to be at both the Portsmouth games that season, he was brilliant, but even his hat-trick couldn’t beat us at their place, cracking game.
