As I said earlier in this thread I believe that the government didn't want to introduce draconian measures - they were trying to find a balance between liberty and public protection. They hoped that more people would take the advice seriously but they were wrong.

I won't criticise them for trying to allow the public to be responsible and take personal responsibility not to put others at risk.

I just can't blame the government for this and I would say the same if it was a Labour government. The idiots who won't follow advice are completely to blame in my opinion.

If we can follow their advice over something as serious as this then there is no excuse for others not doing the same.

They are small. I don't know if I'd go as far as to say "ridiculously small".

It would be enough to overwhelm the NHS, easily.

That just illustrates my point that they took measures to protect but they wanted to avoid a complete lockdown. He hoped he wouldn't have to go further, he hoped the advice would be followed. Sadly some in society have shown they are incapable of following advice so further measures are needed.

You keep using the word hoped He’s our leader he had warnings we knew what was coming and he dithered .
Yes some are incapable if of following advice and that’s when a leader should lead not put the rest of us at risk by advising he should have instructed . You can excuse him all you want but he was the one who could have stopped these and he failed . He’s probably gonna do it tonight , too little too late even his backbenchers are criticising his actions . He’s failed .

If he had done I suspect that some would have accused him of not trusting us, of dictatorship or of presiding over a nanny state. It must be an incredibly difficult decision for any government to have to make and I think they were right to try and avoid a total lockdown but some have proven that as a society we can't be trusted and so now we will be forced to follow the advice.

No one would have accused him of that and even if they had it was the right thing to do in fact he’s doing it tonight .
If it’s right today it was right yesterday and last week .
He’s had hindsight from other country’s and hes not known what to do .
If morons are going out and putting my life or the lives of people o love at risk I want mpritection not advice and he’s not done that till it’s too late .
Obviously it was right because he’s doing it now and he should have done it sooner ,
No excuses for me he’s been put on the spot and failed .

It doesn't come as any surprise to me that he is being criticised and people have every right to do so. That said however the government can't win in these unprecedented times, it doesn't matter what they do there will be criticism from some quarters, that's just a fact of life. You have your opinions and you're entitled to them but I think your criticism is misplaced.

Your opinion is just that, an opinion, and a partisan one - I don't mean that as a pejorative. I would say that I've heard far more support for the government than I have criticism and this includes left wing journalists and broadcasters. I'm not just blindly supporting him, that isn't what I'm saying, I am focusing my criticism on different people to you. I asked you why most people could follow the advice but some failed - they are the problem and unless I can be convinced that they lived under a rock and genuinely hadn't seen or heard the news for the last month then they are the people that I will continue to criticise.

Yeah I’m criticising the people who supposed to be leading us your criticising people that went to the seaside because the govt didn’t do it’s job ,
Your Defense is by far more partisan than my critique , even I could have told Boris that without ordering people to isolate some wouldn’t . this left wing journalist thing is rubbish Mario it’s on every station by every journalist even Jeremy Hunt has criticised him besudesvother Bach benchers .
You continue to defend him because in a few weeks it’ll mean nothing , he’s announcing a string of measures tonight that he could have issued last week and he failed and that will cost lives .
If it’s right today it was right last week when he shut the pubs .

I've already said that I would have supported a Labour government if they had done exactly the same thing so I have no idea how my stance is partisan. I honestly believe that had JC won the election and had done the same as Boris you would have applauded his attempts to maintain our valued liberties - that is the very definition of partisan.

now your summising and you’d be wrong . I’m more concerned over my elderly parents than the Labour Party at this point .
The clown has made a mess and if a Labour govt had made the same idiotic mistakes he made I’d be fuming .
He divided instead of uniting with people calling others for not taking the advice which he decided to give tonight . If it’s right now it was right on Friday when he made the other announcements .
My last word on this because even his own party are moving against him and his Commie advisor that said in a meeting it didn’t matter if a few oaps die . That’s disgusting and they’ll hopefully be gone before end of this month.

I don’t exactly go looking for it but I saw the Archbishop if York on TV over the weekend.
Cheery as ever, he’s broadcasting services and urging everyone to stay home.

That said the latest figures just released (reported on the local media TV news), in our province, 98% of fatalities due to Corona virus had pre-existing conditions. The average age of the victims was over 75. The numbers of infected people has fallen two days running but fatalities are still increasing. As we are now two weeks into lockdown we SHOULD start seeing some improvement in numbers of both infections and deaths.

My worry is what is the end game? Once people come out of isolation and the virus starts to spread again what then? Can we have a vicious cycle for 18 months?

They’re not. they’re nowhere near ridiculously small and it’s that kind of misinformation that leads people to think they don’t need to follow the advice.

    I’m gonna keep posting this:

if you have said ‘it’s just the same as flu’ or ‘only the old and sick will die’ or ‘they would have died anyway’. It’s your fault that people aren’t taking this seriously and it’s your fault that millions of people won’t be going to work tomorrow.

not BoJo, not the government or the police not Covid 19 but you.
