No chance , Wigan have been in the relegation places almost all season and Middlesborough have been in Only a few days before this. Season has to be cancelled tough on Liverpool but there’s no inevitability on rest of positions especially Leeds etc.
But they cant really know the right course of action until we have some idea when it will be possible to play sports again - we all know its not the end of April but lets say its a year from now - in that case just finish this season off then. I don't know what they can actually decide at the moment
At some point a decision has to be made about this season. Personally I think the best course of action would be to cancel this season and focus on when the new season can begin.
At the minute folk are clinging to the hope things aren't going to get much worse. Unfortunately in 2 weeks time reality will hit home and like in Italy and Spain football won't even be thought about. In the US the NFL are still planning for the annual draft, by the end of this week the commissioner will look a proper plonker. MLB, NBA and NHL all realised early the season is done and void.
Things will be left in the air for quite a while now. No point making decisions about something that is not urgent or really important at this moment
Perhaps it’s all gesturing and the football leagues know there is no chance but want the govt to make the decision for them so they can go cap in hand for money to govt? Just a thought
That happens in a normal season though. It's quite possible for someone to drop into relegation on the last day having never been there all season. Opposite end, but we squeaked into the playoffs under Hecky.
In 3 weeks time will we even be having this conversation? I doubt that any decent rational person will care a jot about the season being finished.
I think we will at some point. When it's all over people will need something to take their minds off the inevitable tragedy that's going to unfold.
No no no no no. Scratch the league. That's the only sensible thing. Too many ifs and buts otherwise. Genuinely my thoughts. not a biased opinion.
sorry can't agree agree, your final position reflects the results having played everybody, some teams will have the tough ones to go and others easier. In the case of teams who have established a big lead that would be different. People talk about finishing the season behind closed doors but hows that work with distancing? Also some teams will have been badly hit by the virus, others may be tempted to play players they really shouldn't as they perhaps should be isolated. Also there's the need for at least one ambulance to be present. What if it drags on ( as is likely) after contracts expire, some clubs may even be out of business! The variables are endless
