Information just released to day official sources. Le Marche region breakdown of deaths...
275 men 142 women have died since the outbreak. Of those 96.4% had underlying conditions and the average age of the victims was 79.8 years of age.
Also, 1st seven days of lockdown figures indicate average daily rise of cases 24.8% average has now fallen as of 29th to 5.7%
Overall in Italy deaths last two consecutive days have fallen (albeit from Fridays highest of all)
    Confirmed cases also falling.
Reports in the Cronaca Maceratese tonight of someone being fined 400 euros for buying cigarettes … or more to the point he was caught buying them in a different comune where he lives without the necessary document to confirm he had a valid reason to travel.
Looks like the lockdown is starting to work although it is certainly too early to determine whether it has peaked here.
Just thought I would mention it as one or two in the UK seem to be questioning the validity in the UK of police randomly stopping people in peacetime. Make no mistake we are at war... just because the enemy is invisible doesn't make it any less of an invasion.

Have they given any indication when the lockdown will be relaxed?

Not yet - reviewing it in three weeks. Hopefully hit the peak soon - think many would struggle if this goes on for months - mentally , physically and financially. Important to stay safe I know but it won't stop people worrying

Sorry just realised this isn't uk - apologies

Out of interest, what do you think "socialism can only arrive by bicycle" actually means? Not having a go but I find it open to several interpretations and a bit inscrutable unless there is a context I'm not aware of.

Depressingly Conte's decree allows it to run until 31 July but the first phase expires the coming Friday (3rd July) but is certain to be extended for probably another 20 days but the exact extension period has yet to be announced

Strangely the quote comes from a Chilean member of Congress representing the Socialist Party of Chile. My interpretation of it was that he implied that Socialism does not provide a good environment for Entrepreneurs to do their stuff and innovate and create. (I must admit it sounds more like an indictment of Communist states like the old USSR, North Korea, and China under Mao, in that their ability and ambitions to create and innovate appeared limited to weaponry both nuclear and conventional). I think it is fair to say when owning aTrabant was the height of ambition for most working Russians and East Germans that do not have high places within the 'Party' It could be a fairly accurate quote. For all its faults (and they are many and major), Capitalism has been, and still is an environment where most (albeit not all) technological and scientific advances were made for decades).

When did the country enter a lockdown? I’m just trying to gauge how long we could be in for over here

9th March was the full lockdown IIRC.

    Italy graphs here

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/

Looking at them id say that the peak has passed. Don't forget the deaths and cases today were showing symptoms a 3 to 14 days ago. Given that I'd expect it to continue to drop albeit with some unevenness.

I always took it to mean it had to come from the people wanting it, rather then being imposed.

So the bicycle is a clunky iron one - with a bloke in a stripey jumper and onions round his neck whistling a joyful tune with a beret balanced precariously on his head.

Not Bradley Wiggins with full team sky support or lance armstrong pumped up on drugs.

Thw whole of Italy entered lockdown in its current extreme form schools closing, travel restricted to essential journeys only, stay within own comune, use nearest supermarket etc.on the 12th March
The initial restrictions (bars restaurants limited opening hours/ social distancing etc started 4th April) In Lombardia and the Northern effective regions restrictions started earlier but dont know the exact dates.
Almost certainly the current restrictions will be extended on Friday as they appear to be working.

Apparently China including the Wuhan district are slowly downgrading the lockdowns and life there is slowly getting back to normality after 2 months of total lockdown, after only having 1 new case in the last week

Its a mandatory 14 day quarantine on entering the country (at your own expense if your usual residence isn't up to specification), with masks on all passengers and temperature checks. IIRC non-Chinese nationals are not currently allowed entry into the country.

Only way to beat it is to stop infection.

Yeah, read that in the article, it's a glimmer of hope for us though that they are seemingly coming out the other end

Wikipedia says the initial nationwide lockdown was the 9th with an expansion on the 11th.
