Police powers

Good for you, i cooperate by not breaking the law but I don’t trust them, and for good reason.

 

Couldn't agree less, I trust them completely. No point in arguing though.

 

They are massively well paid, have high sick pay, retire with huge pensions in their 40s, etc.

totally irrelevant to your original post!

 

Back to my main point then - no human created power structure without true external oversight is uncorrupted. The police are morally bankrupt institutionally due to a lack of said oversight. Their granting of more unquestionable power (as those in this thread seem so eager to grant) is not in our interest.

Of which:20,578were crimes of “assault without injury on a constable” recorded across all forces (including the British Transport Police), an increase of 13% comparedwith 18,138 in the previous year.
10,399crimes of “assault with injury on a constable”recorded across all forces (including British Transport Police), an increase of 27% compared with 8,157 in the previous year.

wakeyred, when was the last time someone tried to stab you with a hypodermic needle?
Vomited into their hand and threw it at you?
threatened to knife you?
Tried to kick you whilst others were punching you from behind?
Smashed the windows of your patrol car?
Threatened to set dogs on you?

My daughter is a police officer in South Yorkshire and all those things have happened to her

The police earn their pay and it is not as high as some would have you believe, it's a **** and incredibly stressful job dealing with the scrotes and violent murderous dregs of society, but you're upset because a copper might actually ask where you're going in this unprecedented and deadly pandemic?
The (unarmed) British police are the best in the world mate, and you should thank your lucky stars you have them

 

Well it's not a job I'd want to do .Not so sure their pension terms are as favourable as they used to be either

That’s a bit of an overreaction to being asked to sit on your sofa for a week so far. ‘Rather live no life’, how entitled can you get? Stop crying, get on with it and in a few months or whatever you’ll be able to go wherever you like. You’re acting like it’s forever.

 

Me too. They have been given these extra powers for good reason. I'm getting really fed up with the politically driven garbage that I am reading and hearing during this crisis.

 

The phrases ‘stir crazy’ and ‘cabin fever’ are going to be heard a lot more in the coming weeks.
I don’t agree with anything wakeyred has put, but I suspect he is/was just fed up with this lockdown, like the rest of us.

 

I am alone on my boat in an empty marina on a Greek island. I have to get written permission via sms to go anywhere and the list of places I can go is very small. Cabin fever is something very real here. Today is day 7 of the full lockdown and the fine for breaking it starts at 150 euro.

 

This is where the board comes in, at least we can communicate with each other and have a moan if necessary.
You ll have to change your name to Robinson Crusoe if it gets any worse!
