I disagree, more of the same I'm afraid a Londoner with a South east mindset, terrible appointment for Labour and more importantly the Labour supporter heartlands, Lisa Nandy would have been a more positive appointment in my opinion.
Time will tell of course, but, I fear many years in the political wilderness for Labour.

As a side note, I was going to rejoin the Labour party, but now I'll hold out and see how he performs.

Didn't vote for him but he's won the election in all sections of membership. Rayner good choice for deputy and I'm expecting a good quality shadow cabinet. Get behind em and hopefully we'll have a united party.

Another middle aged white male southern leader. At least the Conservatives have had a couple of female leaders. It would have been just what they need right now. It's a poor appointment to try and win back their old northern heartlands.

Correct, I can't believe how angry I am with this appointment.

He's won a clear and substantial majority in a democratic election across all sections of the party. Can't argue with that.

I’m of the exact polar opinion. He’s exactly what we need, the labour heartland is now London. The north sold its soul for brexit.

when they realise they've been sold a dud in both Johnson and brexit starmer is the man to unite behind. It’s no longer an us and them.

Well I voted Corbyn , but I never voted new labour. As Keir starmer is a new labour type I guess that brings my support of labour to an end .

Yes a democratic choice, and of course I'll accept the decision, but I do believe an opportunity has been missed to genuinely unite the Labour party, this decision in my view will polarise, even more, the North-South divide.
I may well be proven wrong, and if so I'll say so, but I think this country has had a belly full of the London centric politician.

Not a member of the Labour party but very happy with Starmer as the leader - intelligent and hopeully unifying as he has a clear majority in all sections of the party. Hopefully he makes them more electable to the floating voters. Id have loved Dr Allin Khan as deputy but Rayner is OK and again has a good broad level of support across the party. Disappointed some on here are already saying they wont vote Labour anymore - before they even have any idea of his policies - and being realistic if the corbyn supporters desert Labour now that just guarantees another Tory win in the next election - it makes no sense to me

I've no time for blairites . They did more to undermine Corbyn which in turn led to a Tory rout at the last election . I had no reason to trust them then , and I've no reason to trust them now .

Agree with the opinion that Lisa Nandy would have been a good choice apart from the fact
that in the eyes of some critics, she is politically inexperienced. For me, Rebecca Long Bailey
wasn't the answer, so given his experience as a Barrister, at the DPP, Westminster and his
political ideology, Kier Starmer is possibly the best choice of getting Labour back into governing
    the Country.

How on earth is Starmer a Blairite - he only got elected 2 elections after Blair had stood down. and to blame "blairites" for Corbnys failure is about as plausible as blaming 5G for Coronavirus - the reasons for Corbyns defeats are most definitely elsewhere - Im not a Blairite either but given a choice between say Browns Labour government and Boriss current governemt I know which I would pick

Fair enough . But if you think Keir starmer is some sort of clean break from centrist new labour politics I'd say your very much mistaken .

This will have deeper ramifications with regards to the union too, the Scots, Welsh and Northern irish already feeling disenfranchised by the London elite will see this appointment as another slap in the face, it's not just the North of England that will suffer with the lack of true representation in Westminster.

Had enough? You mean the country that voted for an ex-London Mayor? A toff who’s privileged? At least Starmer can put forward a cogent argument rather than shouting a lot whilst pumping his arms out at random!

No I didn’t vote for him either but as yourself I’ll support him.
Lisa Nandy was my choice but what’s done is done I also think she’s very attractive as an aside but there you go.
Rayner great choice for Deputy though .

Centre left parties are all but dead . The Dems , Germany's SDP for example . All they ve got is to voter shame their voters into voting for them . People want change and all they ve to offer is more status quo politics .
