Like I have said, those simply accepting that locking us all down (based on no evidence) is the best option maybe should think again:

    https://www.theguardian.com/educati...-little-impact-on-spread-of-coronavirus-study

Even the people who advised the government on the lockdown is admitting it:

Prof Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, who is one of the key epidemiologists advising the government, said: “school closure as a measure on its own is predicted to have a limited effectiveness in controlling Covid-19 transmission".

Well yeah but we haven’t done school closure on its own so that quote is completely pointless.

Hang on... seriously?! You cut the quote in the middle of a sentence, including putting a full stop at the end to pretend that was the whole thing! Here’s the rest of that sentence:

‘when combined with intense social distancing it plays an important role in severing remaining contacts between households and thus ensuring transmission declines.”’

That’s genuinely pissed me off enough to pop you on ignore for a bit. I don’t mind that you have a different opinion but that is absolute knob head behaviour.

Did you just forget to include this bit?

"Prof Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, who is one of the key epidemiologists advising the government, said: “While school closure as a measure on its own is predicted to have a limited effectiveness in controlling Covid-19 transmission, when combined with intense social distancing it plays an important role in severing remaining contacts between households and thus ensuring transmission declines.”

Edit: see this has been covered

Was just about to post the same, taken out of context. I see some media outlets also making noises about kids going back after Easter if lockdown lifted. We've got the PM in ICU and then they publish this. We also don't know enough about the virus, all we know is it spreads easily and kills folk over varying timescales.

This thread should be retitled, "another example of why I'm being a bit of a silly sausage"

We can watch what happens in Austria before making any decisions
They have been in lockdown for a bit longer than us and infections and deaths have dropped quite a bit - though because they acted quickly they never had the acceleration seen in the UK Spain and Italy
Planning to start easing restrictions in a weeks time

The restrictions in Austria are still more than anything in the UK - including IIRC mandatory masks for supermarket visits.

This is typical from this poster. Quite a few people on here know people who have died and some know a lad who is close to them who is currently fighting for his life right now. I still cannot work out why he is taking this line.

They are today - they wont be in a weeks time as they plan to allow smaller non essential shops and garden centres to open they do require masks for supermarket visits and also are now insisting they are used for public transport as well - guess they have a better supply of masks than there is in the UK
