That’s absolutely awful, mate. I didn’t realise they were stopping treatment altogether. That’s very stupid and should not be happening at all. I want to point out though that’s not a result of the lockdown, but a result of NHS policy.
You and other applauded the government originally for ‘following the science’ when they announced the ridiculous herd immunity approach.
I don't remember using that phrase but not do I remember seeing or knowing about any study by them either. I just know that herd immunity is what protects us from many viruses and has done for centuries. I don't need to see a new paper to tell me that.
Herd immunity is the result of vaccinations and inoculation though. Not the result of allowing people to contract a virus we knew/know nothing about.
Fair enough. Regardless the aim of the media campaign was to get the public on board before it was announced. A very smart policy btw.
They are sadly, my neighbour was telling me his brother has terminal cancer. With Treatment was hopefull he could have 2-3 years. Treatment delayed until further notice. Likely he won't see Christams without it. By the time things change it could well be too late to do anything.
Herd immunity in modern times is a results of vaccinations. However it can occur without a vaccine it will in those circumstances just have a much higher death toll to reach. Herd immunity will be the outcome of this pandemic. The only question is how we reach it.
I'm advocating what I've always advocated which is a relaxation of the lockdown for those individuals who have a lower risk of serious ill health from the virus, and a stepping up of the targeted "shielding" of those most at risk. I don't pretend to have all the answers and I know that will need significant state funding but it will be a sight less than the current furlough measures combined with the astronomical losses in tax revenues we're incurring at the moment. You can't surely think the answer is the entire population stay locked down for 18 months? For what it's worth I'm on the vulnerable list as I have regular immunosuppressant treatment for chronic bowel disease, so I do very much sympathise with your family situation.
