I'm praying today was the peak but it won't be. The 4 day Easter period will mess the figures up, but by next Wednesday I'm sure we'll see the very sad situation we're in. The figures to date could be out by up to 80% which is scary.
Heard toda I heard today that Australia has a total so far of 50 deaths. Thats from day one not overnight. They ignored advice from WHO, stopped incoming flights from China on Feb 1st, imposed compulsory quarantine on everyone entering the country and introduced voluntary shut down. Just 50 deaths and the curve is flattening. A third of those infected are due to a cruise liner discharging infected passengers and one death has resulted from the ship taking on passengers afterwards.
Just to redress the balance on this because it’s quite scary... my wife is the palliative care lead in her surgery and therefore is quite close to a lot of this. they have been working very hard on end of life care plans for the elderly so they can die comfortably in their home if they so wish, if they contract the disease. In short it is highly unlikely to be in their best interests to go into hospital because: 1. there will be a low chance of survival via treatment 2. They won’t see their family 3. They will he exposed the the disease if they don’t have it 4. There may not be the beds there anyway Whilst the figures are probably correct about 1,000 hospital deaths a day over the next week she has heard absolutely nothing about the under 16s and the general feeling is that things are very much under control at the moment. There will be a considerable number of deaths in care homes I would have thought. where we have benefitted is the communication between the hospitals and the fact that they all act ‘as one’ rather than in isolation. I’m not in any way saying you or your missus is making this up but I would take it with a pinch of salt!
I was in Australia a month ago. There were no restrictions at all. My girlfriend lives there so we speak about the situation daily. Lockdown here is much more severe than there. All cafes are still open in Australia, albeit just for take away. Australia benefits from isolation as far as Covid-19 is concerned, both in terms of how far away it is from the rest of the world, and how far each town and city is from the next.
Nevertheless, the measures seem to be working. Distance is irrelevant there. If that’s how far apart places are then that’s how far you travel to get there if you choose to go. It might make it easier to keep away from other people however. Not all states introduced the same measures at the same time and I think I only mentioned a date for the flights from China. Restrictions in the UK may be more widespread but penalties in Oz are more severe for infringements, 1000 dollar fines in place. Tighter restrictions as time has passed due to people ignoring them. I repeat, it seems to be worling.
I don't think it has peaked yet as far as deaths go....I haven't got the graph to hand but I noticed there was a huge spike of infections about 10 days after Mothers Day...I assume that it will translate into a noticeable spike in deaths soon.
Here's a graph comparing Italian deaths to UK deaths starting form when both roughly had 55 deaths each (UK had 55 on the 16th March, Italy 52 on the 3rd March). THe daily difference show how many more deaths Italy has had on each following day.
Selected Yorkshire cumulative deaths, there's a whole bunch more but the graph gets hard to read if I put them all in....
I'm hoping the numbers will start to fall as we have been in lockdown 3 weeks on monday. Although I went out today on my exercise and plenty of cars on the road.
Is it not relevant to the thread? Out of order. If you don't want to read it about it, don't read it!
I suggest you don’t open the thread specifically about the number of deaths then. Or better yet, don’t read this board for the next few months, as 95% of posts are about the virus.
But the following is the title of the thread: Big jump again today to 562 deaths So you can't say you weren't warned to a certain extent.
But then why would you open a thread with the title being how many deaths there are? There's nothing wrong with the updates and if you don't want to read them you're hardly being forced. Completely understand why you wouldn't want to too
