Not connected but I dropped on the Oldham v Man Utd fa cup semi final yesterday Oldham had some great players in that side. Forgot how good they were. Barlow Irwin Henry Holden Redfearn (yup) Ritchie ( yup) Marshall Palmer ( sub) always a thorn in our side. Great game 3-3. Oldham lost the replay.
What a great side that Oldham team were - fantastic to watch as well. Really enjoyed the semi finals they've shown this weekend - very entertaining.
Middlesbrough had a good side as well. They got to both Cup Finals that season losing in the League Cup final to Leicester and to Chelsea in the FA Cup final. They were also relegated from the top league despite the best efforts of Ravanelli who nabbed 17 goals in 35 appearances. Both him and Juninho were treated very well at the Club by Steve Gibson apparently. I worked with a lad who supported Boro. He lived in the same village and drank in the pub as some of the Boro players. They told him that the Italian was on a right wedge for the sole season he was there.
As it turned out their 95/96 side with Barmby and Hignett had more substance. Sometimes those foreign players were great to watch but lacked consistancy.
