Exclusive Interview | John Dennis Interviews On the anniversary of our promotion to the top flight, we caught up with the legendary John Dennis to reminisce - our former Chairman, in his own words... Continue reading on the official site...
Very well written. Oddly enough I'd always quite liked Mcmanaman ( having that t shirt supporting the sacked dockers, helping his girlfriend finish her dissertation instead of celebrating some important Liverpool result) but he went right down in my estimation after seeing him at Iakwell!
Didn't cheer me up at all. Bought a new stand and spunked promotion funds away on ***** managers and expensive flops.
I'd prefer him to these cretins with benefit of hindsight but if he knew his arsoil from his elbow he'd av' still been at the helm.
Not got a problem with John Dennis at all. Gave us some fantastic memories and a ground to be proud of. If Darren Barnard had stuck that pen away at Wembley right on the stroke of half time who knows where we’d be right now.
John (I'm better than Fjortoft even though my legs have gone I'll replace you with Don Goodman and Deon Burton) Hendrie. Dave (Craig Hignett's the anti-christ I like Mike Sheron) Bassett. Nigel Spankman and Cry in the kitbag Parkin.
I disagree Stephen, building the new stand when you had money and more support is surely the best time to do it? If he hadn't then that would have been criticised too. And we have the room to be able to play in Eurooe too, when we reach such heady heights again!
I'm like Brian Clough I wish I had a time machine because I'd go back n' do it better. Even if it's just a roof on a urinal.
Not really. Barnard was the most deadly penalty taker in the league. You would have bet everything you own on him scoring.
Yes but he only took that because Barnard missed. Off Hignett would have stepped up to take the first penalty we would all have been going barmy and screaming for him to give it Barnard.
You seem to forget . We had to adapt to all seater stadia. There wasn’t the money flying around as nowadays. He wasn’t a billionaire. ITV digital and the banks screwed us over. Expensive flops are not just special to Barnsley. I do believe John Hendrie suffered through injuries as manager and would have improved results with a fully fit squad. Brought Higgy to the club. Basset got us to Wembley play off final. The players admit they bottled it not basset.
Brilliant read from a top man. He should be picked by every Barnsley fan for a Mount Rushmore from our history. Gave us our best season ever, many of our greatest players and a ground and academy to be proud of.
