Birdlife

with the place being a lot quieter we hear the morning chorus louder, and its wonderful. Also seeing more species about too. We have a bird feeding station in the garden and its been brill sitting and watching them come and go from the living roomwindow.

 

Pigeons and Magpies are our bugbear at the moment. Pigeons keep flocking to the bird table, Magpies are after the Blackbirds. If only we could persuade them to attack each other.

 

we live in a very rural area so we are lucky. We do get the usual culprits lime Magpies, pigeons, starlings. But have had loads of others. Robins, sparrows of course. But also Most of the tit species, jackdaws, nuthatch, wrens, even had a couple of jays drop by. Its quite relaxing just to sit and watch them from the lounge window.

Completely agree, I'm look to have quite a few different types regularly on my feeding stations, most nest in the trees and shrubs at the end of the garden, I get Robin's, Great and Blue tits, hedge sparrows, Dunnocks a plenty then there's 2 pairs of nesting blackbirds who come every year and some collared doves plus a song thrush too, I've also so far had a green Finch return and only yesterday a pair of long tailed tits were using the birdbath, also get the occasional Heron and Buzzards flying over as I don't live too far from a local nature reserve, only down side is a pair of pigeons that I'm constantly having to chase off as they just sit and empty the feeders.
I'm still to see goldfinch and Chaffinches yet this year or the pair of Bulfinch's from last year either.
I love watching them especially collecting nesting material and feeding their young.
I just miss not been able to get out and about to see more, did venture out to Adwick washland the other day, which isn't too far from Goldthorpe or Bolton on Dearne for those in that area and there's plenty of wildlife to see on there.
All keeps me happy especially through these difficult times

 

we are also fortunate to have a Blackbird family nesting in one of our bushes and a sparrow family too in another. They have both returned for a good few years now.

 

Nuthatch is on my bird bucket list for this year, so your very lucky, only ever seen 1 wren and a couple of Jays so very jealous lol

Brilliant when you get them coming back year after year, I've 3 Robins that seem to be permanent residents, so much so I've named them Cooper, Currie and Lowndes lol

we go here for a weeks break from time to time, its fantastic. The wild life is great foxes, squirrels, rabbits tons of bird species etc... great walking up on the Roaches. Cannot recommend it enough.

We do a weekly bird watching competition up ere in Carnaby, saw two Buzzards flying over local farm land yesterday, first time for me.

 

I tend to spend my breaks in Snowdonia, mostly for the piece and quite and the amazing scenery and to do some walking, don't tend to see much wildlife, have seen the Ospreys and also Crossbills in Beddgelert forest

 

we have loads of Buzzards in the Vale of Glamorgan and a few other species of birds of prey... and now Red Kites have started to come in too.

 

I'll have to get down then once we are out of lockdown, it's been a while anyway since I walked the Res so due a visit
