One of the all time greats. Picked up one of his CD's before the lockdown. All the favourites like " Tutti Fruitti", " Long Tall Sally" etc all on there. Absolutely timeless. RIP Petit Dick.
Saw him at Doncaster Gaumont on a bill that featured Bo Diddley, Dusty Springfield, the Spencer Davis Group and top of the bill the Everly Brothers. Compère was Jimmy Tarbuck. What a line up that was. Three songs into the Everlys set, a segment of the audience were still shouting for more from Little Richard. He had the place absolutely rocking.
Long tall Sally what a tune! Tutti Frutti always makes me laugh, was a song about anal sex originally.
Chubby Checker too, if he counts. Lost Little Richard, Fats Domino and Chuck Berry all in the last couple of years I mean they were all mid-late 80s but still
I would class Chubby Checker with the 60’s personally not one of the mid 50’s instigators of rock and roll, not “rock music” but out and out rock and roll guitar, bass, piano and usually saxaphone(s)
Attachment lists 1-10 in terms of the true stars of Rock and Roll. Don't think many would argue about Elvis being in top slot. https://watchmojo.com/video/id/11534
TBF lots of top Rock n Roll Artists put Bo Diddley as their biggest influence , indeed Buddy Holly wrote a song about him .
Can't argue with that just my own opinion that he was total rythmn and blues I know you're gonna say rock and roll contains r & b which some of it does but my opinion is r & b is more subdued than r & r
Yep each to their own one mans R&B is another mans Rock n Roll or soul etc . I’d go with the top r&r artists verdict though Buddy Holly loved him and that’s good enough for me .
