watching Dad's Army , the one with the German U-Boat crew...one of the Iconic episodes. "Don't tell him your name Pike" total quality
Just watched it myself, old mate. Wonderful episode. Funnily enough, I've always thought you're the epitome of Corporal Jones!
Tried watching the remake of "Dads Army" with Toby Jones playing Captain Mainwaring. I greatly admire Toby and his late father Freddie who played Ashley's Dad in Emmerdale, but I just couldn't get past thinking of all the "old" characters from the original show and turned over to another channel after around five minutes. Much prefer the Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier et al cast to the 2020 version.
The Toby Jones film is quite charming but the characters in it are trying so hard to replicate the original ones that it makes it difficult to watch without harking back. The lost episodes remakes on tv were also easy on the eye. I enjoyed them but still had that odd feeling.
I was laughing at the attempts of Cpl Jones to get the prisoners to put their hands up, where he invented his own language " handsee up, handsee up etc". As a lad my mates and I, used to hang about near some shops on the A18 Main road which went from Donny to the East Coast. We used to get foreign tourists stop asking us the way to Scarborough or Brid. A mate of mine used to associate being foreign with deafness. He'd go up to them, cup his hands round their lug and in some form of pidgin English, start shouting directions at the top of his voice. They must have had tinnitus after he'd finished.
