I think the EFL would walk any court case considering the exceptional circumstances and the safety of the players and staff.

That's a good point, which I hadn't considered. I'd obviously considered there may be times in the future when we lock down again, I hope not, I've read ways of tackling this that should prevent that, but then I look at who's in charge...

So if we do cancel this season and then we lock down again, then what?

Our relegation has no bearing on my thoughts about this. I genuinely couldn't care less. Watching Barnsley play again is something I look forward to. The division that's in really doesn't matter.

You are right that as supporters you are only really bothered about your own club.

Other than declaring the season null and void OR playing the matches then i can't see any other way that will not instigate legal proceedings, thus would the season ever end. There will always be winner and losers in any circumstances.

Well I would take “Null & Void” all day long. It would make a refreshing change for the breaks to fall our way - Just for Once.

Problem with this is you're asking clubs to survive with next to no income for the next 15 months

I can see what you are saying but as much as I dislike liverpool they need one more win to win there 1st title in god knows how many years to null and void really wouldnt be fair on them. I think in the exceptional circumstances any legal case would struggle but liverpool, leeds, west brom would likely try legal case if the season was null and void.

Like we did under Flicker under similar? Or how with nine to go last season Sol Campbell somehow kept Macclesfield in the league? We aren't relegated so can't be put in division 1.

This is it isn’t it, irrespective of our own personal predictions/ acceptance, there is/was plenty enough left of the season to escape relegation. Someone already posted about Villa being almost mid- table (I think it was) this time last year. Charlton above us, had hit some bad form, Wednesdays may have been reeling had a large points deduction come their way. Are we to apply supposition, ifs and buts when it suits are are we to try at least to apply it generally?

I'll second that one, pal. Would rather watch us be competitive again in League 1 to be fair.

For those declaring our current position as a deserved, final position:

With nine games left to play of the 2017/18 Championship season, Barnsley were 21st, three points above the drop zone. Well done, José!

With nine games left to play of the 2014/15 League One season, Barnsley were 6th. Playoffs a year early.

With nine games left to play of the 2012/13 Championship season, Barnsley were 20th and safe. No great escape needed.

With nine games left to play of the 2011/12 Championship season, Barnsley were 17th. Heyup, Keith, are you Robins in disguise?

With nine games left to play of the 2001/02 Division One season, Barnsley were 20th and never went down.

With nine games left to play of the 1996/97 Division One, Barnsley were 3rd and history was never made.

It should also be noted that Leeds have won the title for many of the last few years, using this absurd theory that only 37 games count.

Whatever happens next it will seem unfair. The season is ruined. Finish it, void it or go with PPG. It's just a mess.
Personally I just don't care if we are relegated. The only point I would start to care is if the financial implications ment we were at risk of going bust. This I think will start to be a worry for a lot of other clubs before us

Being relegated would have financial implications, not fair when the FFP cheaters avoid this

I don't know if I would. I'd consider it 'just our luck' and 'typical' if it happened but I would consider it fair (unless we had mathematically been promoted or relegated). Unless it was set in stone either way, then you can't just presume that that's what would have happened and I'd have that same stance whether we were top or bottom.

Fully agree about the severity of this pandemic and the damage it has caused particularly in regards to the fatalities, the stress and trauma of our front line staff and the severe financial hardship people are going through. At some stage though we so need to pick ourselves up and move forward. We have to.

I’ve posted many a time on here that if the season can’t be finished any way other than scrapping the season is artificial and biased towards whichever body or persons decides the outcomes .
I can’t get this we’ve been rubbish and deserve to go down at all.
If we’d finished in bottom three at the end of a 46 game season then and only then have we deserved to go down .
This we’ve been rubbish is rubbish in its self imo at time we’ve been unplayable and lots of game has been in the eye of the beholder anyway.
I’ve come away from Oakwell thinking we’ve played well and been unlucky but heard comments of them being rubbish And games where it’s been visa versa .
Leeds don’t deserve to go up on 36 games nor do we deserve to go down on same .
It’s simple as this if we don’t finish season it’s scrapped anything else is artificial and biased .

Some football journalists reckon there won’t be any league 1 or 2 football next season unless the premier league sort them out some financial help.Could be Aug 2021 before it starts again.

Yes but given my current feelings on our owners I'm fairly apathetic about that too.

I would have because of the hard work the players and staff put in all season to just say forget it better luck next time. Take liverpool for example it would be unfair on them to void the premiership season. Although if like many are saying it's unfair to relegate a team without the season finishing, which i agree the only other fair option would be promote the top 3 in each league and if the premiership cant be finished just play it next season with more teams and have more relegations.

Nailed it! In the current climate we can't complete the season. Playing behind closed doors, with players in fear of catching Covid isn't a natural continuation of the season. If you are a black player or someone with asthma then it's just too dangerous. Covid's killed healthy adults what makes footballer's immune? Dresden and Brighton are proving how precarious the whole situation is.
How many players are still aboard with family and would be a risk to themselves and others if they travelled back to UK?
