It hasn't, I was being a little facetious so I won't comment further because I don't want to derail this thread.

That's my take. The government realise total lockdown is the only way to contain the virus and have done from the start. A second spike gives them the "I told you it was for your own good stance".

I voted Conservative but this latest decision has put my life at risk even more. I'll be travelling to work on public transport with idiots going to Bridlington for fish n chips. It's a fiasco.

What I can't believe is a party that said they'd get Brexit done couldn't use this to their advantage. You'd have thought Boris would have jumped on the chance to stop Jonny Foreigner.

Alas me n' the rest of the xenophobes were wrong.

I am fairly certain the obfuscation was constructed for purpose.

The plan from the outset was taking a gamble on herd immunity. Although the rhetoric has ostensibly changed, the plan remains. The beauty of this is that the public can be blamed if it doesn’t work. This ties in to the lack of clarity in the rules.

don’t get too excited by a public inquiry either, isn’t Jeremy Hunt the chair of the health select committee? The same bloke who failed to ensure all our NHS staff were adequately equipped.

With my connections in Germany and Austria I've been able to get a picture of their view of the situation here, both from their news and media, and from German and Austrian friends and family on social media. To be blunt, they're gobsmacked at the incompetence and the apparent indifference of our government to the tragedy here. They can't believe how any government can allow its people to suffer in the way we have. If it weren't so serious, we'd be a laughing stock. I'd say the government have no chance of survival when this is over.

You seem to be forgetting that a large percentage of our population are gullible nitwits who believe anything they read in The Sun or the Dailly Mail.

If he's got a shred of decency he'll resign. Obviously there's still a lot we don't know, but the UK's figures are already looking pretty catastrophic when compared with other countries. They can only be spun so far.

As for an enquiry, I'm assuming it'll take at least a couple of years to be completed as a minimum, so the culprits may well already be in different posts by the time the truth comes out.

You're right that there is still a lot that we don't know and it will take a long time for an enquiry to run it's course meaning we may have a new PM in place by the time it reaches any conclusion. The real judgement will come from the public at the next election.

    Unions comment,

"The government still hasn’t published guidance on how workers will be kept safe. So how can the prime minister – with 12 hours’ notice – tell people they should be going back to sites and factories? It’s a recipe for chaos."

Raab confirms this morning that it starts Wednesday, not today.

People surely aren't going to just turn up at work this morning without discussions with team leaders/company bosses telling them that they are open?
Its surely up to individual businesses to work out how to keep workers safe at work not the government. Everyone knows the guidelines about social distancing etc, if you can re open your business following government guidelines do so, if not, stay closed. Its simple really.

Edit: The reali issue is that the communication and clarity on this is just really poor. Keir Starmer this morning:

According to the tweet it was much busier this morning.

"NEW: Very busy on the early tube - this was Jubilee line first thing. Then commuters tell me it eased but noticeably busier than last week with more construction / office workers. Complaints many not wearing masks."
