It's even more than that . Most businesses are built with debt . So you take that new development at birdwell , KFC , Costa , Starbucks etc . All paid for by borrowed money . The banks need us back at work so we can start re servicing that debt . Just think , folk having to risk infection just to flip burgers or make cups of coffee . It really does show the obsurdity of the whole situation .

In these times of nowt to do but sit and study this came into my head if this Wessel Gove and the Detestable Julia Hartless-Brewer got together and had a child, it would be the reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels.

I watched the Andrew Marr interview on Sunday. I don’t think he should have used the word “guarantee” when talking about the safety, and he later back tracked to say that the only way you could guarantee to be safe was to be perpetually imprisoned in your home.

I didn’t comment on this thread to defend Gove, however. Just to call out untrue far left rhetoric. The right get lambasted for allegedly lying, but sections of the far left seem to spread misinformation at every opportunity.

For what it’s worth, my opinion is that the education system is vital, and missing out on school at a young age could potentially affect the rest of a young persons life. Although no one is 100% certain, it appears that the risk to children is tiny. I don’t know how true it is, but I saw a suggestion that the risk of harm to children was greater whilst travelling to and from school than the risk of harm from catching coronavirus at school.

Of course there’s always going to be a risk, but that risk needs to be put into perspective with the risks we all take on a daily basis, and the side effects from attempting to mitigate those risks. That’s how I think Gove should have expressed it, but I recognise what I’ve said could easily be taken out of context to create a sensationalist headline.

Re your last bit. It actually beggers the question why did Gove not consider his reply the first time. Given twice more to rethink his reply. He didn’t. I could have understood if he said it was not meant as he said and indeed answered as I thought anyone could. Eg best endeavours. The snippet on the news gave a totally false impression as if to defend him.
You are quite right in saying it’s your opinion. As I have mine and my stance is I do not trust everything put out to be safe so to speak. I am on the Manchester. Liverpool and Hartlepool side regarding more needs to be done at this stage. To reach best endeavours.
The Kawasaki situation to me needs a lot more investigation as loads of kids are suffering these follow on symptoms. Which hardens my opinion that my Grandkids as well as the Teachers are still at risk not only of covid but indeed Kawasaki. Needs more research. which in this case scientific evidence is vital.
Do you not also agree that beacause the R number in some areas particularly the ones where it’s the highest as in the Manchester and other areas way above the national average. Need to be more cautious. It seems lots of stuff coming out is only based on the London figure.
I wouldn’t ridicule anyone on the shall we, shan’t we send em back to school as the situation is still vague from my perspective. maybe not yours or the Governments.
As for it being far left Rhetoric.( I cant see an originator eg momentum which usually accompanies such statements. Then I’d have seen it that way but still agreed with the meaning. I put up with that much far right stuff total lies on social media re the Brexit and election. I’m sure I can put up with that. ) Maybe so, I’ve no idea who put it out in the first place. But it could also be someone far right worried about their kids. It doesn’t have to be read as political point Scoring the way it was put out. ( you decide) but it certainly raises debate.
IMHO The face mask issue in this country is as clear as mud. Make it mandatory to wear in stores and the like.

You do realise men are 2/3/4 times more likely to suffer worse symptoms/die ( depends where you live aparrantlly) than women. o_O Is it a conspiracy. :).

I get the point about having different approaches in different regions. Maybe the answer is to only open schools in London. However, can you imagine how that would have gone down amongst parents outside of London who are desperate for their kids to get an education? On the one hand people want a clear, simple message like “stay at home”. On the other hand, they want a region by region approach to easing lockdown restrictions. The two aren’t compatible.

The research undertaken by SAGE suggests the impact of opening schools on the R is very small. So even though the R is higher outside London, opening schools still shouldn’t risk it increasing above 1. We have what’s been described as an R “budget”. That is, the amount of headroom we have to release restrictions whilst keeping the R below 1. Surely the priority for that budget has to be a phased re-opening schools because is has the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people.

Let's be right. Initially there will be very little " education " going on. But there will be childcare.

Recovery in Europe v recovery in the UK; only the Guardian will compare and report this. The BBC are 5hit scared to hold this government to account because of the licensing review and all the rest of the media are beholden to them.

It’s obvious we see it differently mate. Who’s right who’s wrong is not the issue. (Which I believe we both think.)

But there will be lots of Londoners and people throughout the country who want to see a bit more evidence. b4 making a decision on whether to send em back to school. Their kids health before education at this moment in time.

lots has been done online with kids who have the means re schooling. my sons partner has been doing things with his pupils that have access to the internet with some home work. To occupy em. ( London based) and copied my granddaughter in. ( Darton)

I know It’s impossible for everyone. But Why for example not use both, in school, and home schooling, using modern technology,

I truly don’t know the complications that might bring. It’s only a thought but a thought that may be developed. Less chance of covid and the aftermath.

Class sizes are a problem do we do it in shifts. As has been suggested. Just doesn’t seem all avenues have been explored in my eyes ( opinion)

I have no idea what’s happening with those in their final year. But home teaching via modern methods may have helped.

If it was down purely to cost. Then I’m pretty sure the country ( those that can afford) would donate towards it as they have towards the NHS.

If it got off the ground I would quite gladly contribute. Or if the top end of society ( income wise) could donate their private school tuition fees instead of paying for a 1 to 1 tutor. Which will happen whether those schools open or not in some cases.

How many Devices could be bought in bulk based on someone contributing 1 weeks wages on £250,000 per week. Probably enough to supply all kids in one school.

My thoughts are based on the fact once a week. I enter a discussion from home. ( my day off) to discuss what we want around covid 19 and aob. As a union rep along with others and management.

There have been up to 9/10 that have joined in. I don’t know if numbers are limited or time limited. But we freely all talk to one another and can interact via speech or video. Not one of us having to be in the same vicinity as any other.

As I say I don’t know the complications of such an idea. All I know is. I’m safe as houses. And cannot be infected that way. Dare I say it. Guaranteed. If not best endeavours. :)

Its not just the devices, its the space to concentrate and getting the kids to do the work.

I understand that Helen and are part of the complications.

But eg For those that want to be educated especially if exams had been in place. Would have the right to distance at home and reduce the risk if possible.

Others in school would then be at less risk. And it would alleviate class sizes. Some kids will not do the work either way.

Also if they were available in class. Distancing for the teacher could mean them being on the premises but not in too close a contact.

At the mo as far as I can gather. ( please correct me if there has been and update I’ve missed.)
Proposals being thought although not confirmed are.
    Class size 15.
Half Days. So in effect may have implications re parents working arrangements.

My thoughts are not a cure all. Not sure anyone can give that. Kids will be kids so to speak. The hardest thing in my mind will not be in class (social distancing) Tis why I thought yr 1 was not well thought out.
But in the playground after can they be relied on to distance.

If any teachers have read what I’ve put. Please contribute. I would value your opinion way over such as myself .

It will.be an absolute nightmare but will end up being the teachers fault as usual cos they're all lazy and only in it for the holidays! Things like truancy will be harder to police as well!

The only way I can see it working is if they actually scrapped the curriculum temporarily and allowed teachers to adapt the teaching according to how many kids were in each class, their capabilities, interests and abilities.

I'd have a go but I've really struggled to fully understand what you are saying in your last two posts with the full stops appearing in the middle of sentences, sorry.

In terms of your idea about crowd funding for equipment, that will never happen as:
    1) It would take ages and the 1st of June is 14 days away (it would need setting up, advertising, people willing to donate, money being paid out, equipment being researched and bought, teachers being trained on how to use it, equipment being handed out etc.)
    2) There's no way it would raise anything like enough, people aren't just going to donate their kid's private school fees for state school kids to have computers etc.
    3) I don't like the idea that things that we may taxes for should also have to be crowdfunded for

In terms of social distancing for reception classes, I'm not sure people know what reception classrooms look like. They don't even have tables and chairs! (except one small nest of tables that can seat a few kids to sit with a teacher for a few mins to do some letter or number formation before they go off and play at the sand pit/water tray/role play area/outdoor provision etc.) Year 1 tend to not have tables and chairs until around Christmas time as they are deemed too young - every year I help my year 1 teacher friends change their classroom around and get tables and chairs back out of storage after Christmas when the continuous provision gets phased out.

The guidance says to have 15 in a class, most people have presumed this to be half a class at a time as people tend to think of classes of 30 students. Some classes can have 36 kids or more. Of course, as some parents will in all likelihood keep their kids off, that may help but an extra classroom and teacher would be needed otherwise for each class where this is the case.

Tis possibly a reason only years 1 and 6. 1 I’m a bit bemused by. Yr 6 in preparation for moving up to secondary. I’ve already assumed they’ve scrapped the curriculum for the rest and will start afresh. Re the final year group. In secondary schools. No exams but basing results on coursework to date. ( to be honest a method I quite like over exams but possibly open to fraud some kids get so stressed over grades nowadays. Exams being a drawback for someone who may excel in class but freeze on exam day. )
.To explain my reasoning one year I not only had the stress of an exam at college for work. But we sat for a whole year doing the wrong curriculum Having to do another year unnecessarily. Probably why I prefer the course work route. Can’t believe it happened and still happens today in some schools. Can someone in the know please run that one by me. I’m not bitter. Grrrr.

See, I don't understand this at all. How and what are they supposed to prepare? Year 6 is spent continuously preparing for SATs but they have now been cancelled (and would have finished by June 1st anyway). The rest of the year is spent doing project type work to try and keep them busy and out of trouble and rehearsing for leaver's assemblies (which cannot possibly go ahead). No transition work can be done without the visits to secondary school. I do wonder when people say they should go back for transition/preparation what they are actually thinking they will be doing.

Thanks Jamdrop. Appreciate the response. Re the punctuations. One of my many faults. I do re read and edit a lot, as I know comments can be misconstrued. I do think I can read between the lines when things are written. But my punctuations are abysmal at times. Certainly something I should have concentrated on at school. Please don’t ask me what, verbs, nouns, adjectives and the like are. I always need to consult the dictionary or google to remind me. if I tried to learn again, I’d only forget next day. My maths are not bad though. Got me through college and my job role.
Please feel free to correct this response. Would educate and amuse me to see where I’ve gone wrong. As I always say at work to apprentices and colleagues. “Every day is a schoolday” . In fact the bleeders use my quote before i do, not giving me the pleasure, now I’m close to retirement.
Believe me I put concentration into this one and have already edited, lol.
