I think I'm right in saying that if someone is incubating the virus in its very early stages then they don't test positive for it. - they may not have a raised temperature. This is a massive problem as is the present time gap between testing someone and getting a result.
I don't know how the quarantine would work if someone refused to be quarantined nor what would happen if someone found to have been in contact with someone with Covid 19 refused to self isolate.

The good news n all this is I honestly think he's done. For too long he's been allowed to secretly run the country unelected (which is ironic) and so many people haven't realised who he is. Now he is front page news as an hypocrite who is responsible for people losing their jobs, their homes, not seeing their family, responsible for suicides and damaging the health of the nation and every single one of us now knows that he has stuck two fingers up at us and done what he wanted. He's done for and I don't think he will be able to continue having any influence. He will certainly lose his job, not because the tories want him to but because millions of people will force it to happen.

is this enforceable - who is actually charged with keeping these people (many hundreds?) isolated and in quarantine?

He's not responsible for any of those things you've outlined.

The BBC is an odd beast in that everyone seems to think it supports the opposite of their views.

Tells me that they do a decent job of being impartial if everybody disagrees with it...

Oh yes he is. He is the chief advisor to Boris Johnson and the government. He is on the sage panel.

    Solely responsible? No
    Has responsibility for? Certainly

    Why are you defending him?

Well pretty much the entire cabinet including the Attorney General now officially and legally support Cummings behaviour.

Any fines or punitive action taken against citizens of this country can't be viewed as proportionate, justified or legal when you've set this shocking precedent.
Any good solicitor or barrister wouldn't have any issues in defending clients.
Remember Neil Ferguson, the same cabinet agreed resigning was the only option.
At the time of the Durham trip only the wife was showing symptoms (unless story changes again), a Tory MP today stated they were scared their child would be taken into care. WTF!?

Three officials caught out doing this - the Scottish scientist, the government scientist and now Cummings. Two resigned and I expect that Cummings will too.

What he has done was unnecessary, hypocritical and contravened his own advice.

Should he resign? Yes I think he should. I don't believe that he can stay in such a senior position due to his own actions.

The most stupid thing is that anyone who is supposed to be in quarantine after returning back from overseas could actually stop at no end of places on their journey home from any airport or ferry port: not everyone can drive 260 miles without stopping

I really hope we can. There's been many things that this government have got away with but there has to be a point when people stop being taken for mugs and enact change and I really hope this is it.

Why would he resign when the entire cabinet has publicly defended him? Boris won’t sack his boss.

I am taking issue with your use of the word "responsible".

He is an advisor. He can come up with ideas and they may be implemented if someone else decides that they can be.

If it goes wrong he is not responsible - in this case the government is.

You could then go on and argue that the electorate are responsible for how things have turned out, cos they put this lot in charge.

Anyway, to try and blame him for suicides etc. is plain wrong.

I'm not defending him. Just attacking you

Speaks volumes. Patel hasn't tweeted her support of Cummings but has retweeted Raab.

And I opposed that too. My views on this forum regards the Iraq invasion are well known.

It is also worth noting that his partners sister lives in London, so perhaps could have helped out in any emergency

Also many good Labour MPs objected to the illegal invasion and cabinet members resigned. I'm not seeing anyone within the cabinet feeling uncomfortable at present.
When the Home Secretary retweets Raab's comments she's bringing the Home Office into disrepute. So far the Cummings' are saying Durham police are lying, Number 10 also stating the same. An independent investigation is needed, but clearly Priti's shown who she believes.

People love a conspiracy theory on here.. Playing devils advocate but I reckon if it had been Corbyn or Starmer, many would be justifying it. I think if the circumstances quoted are correct, ie protecting a child by moving them, I'd do the same, regardless of my political colours.

In fact that whole guidance on not being able to move to another private property you own are a bit daft it you maintain social distancing effectively.

Look at the morons on the beaches (by the looks of the pictures) most of them in their early 20's.. Can you imaging the outrage if it was suggested they all lose their jobs for being ******?

Seems like just a bit of a witch hunt against cummings despite him being a ***** as well.
