Dominic Cummings

Watching the daily briefing I ended up feeling sorry for Grant Shapps. He mentioned a handful of positive things to do with his position in transport and they all got ignored in the questions asked as he drew the short straw with the endless Cummings questions.

 

I've vowed never to read another article printed by the Guardian again so won't be clicking that link Titus. Again though, I'm not disputing that he might have been behind the herd immunity theory, there are just so many conflicting stories (maybe it's their intention so the truth never really gathers momentum)..

 

I was a bit puzzled at his announcement that he's allocating was it 280 million to get public transport back to full timetable, then asked people not to use it?
And he's reversing a lot of the Beeching cuts, which is good news for previously cut off towns.

Then as you say he got the s__t storm of the Cummins issue, for which he did a passable imitation of Herol Bomber Graham on a sheet of newspaper (anyone remember that?)

 

I don't feel sorry for him, i felt uncomfortable for him. I'd have told the party to **** off and wouldn't have done the press conference.
You're right though some the policies sound good. All will be forgotten, A66 scheme much much needed.
Transport Secretary's remit shouldn't be to wipe PM's arse and take bullets for him.

 

But why was a transport minister put forward to answer questions which would obviously been about the story of the day and not the number of buses on the road.
Cowardly tories like boris and Raab scared to face the public.
This govt make make me sick. No leadership whatsoever.

 

Do those briefings actually do any good? I get a bit tiresome of them explaining how to read a chart every day.
Only ones really that have been productive have been by the chancellor. I may be reading him wrong but I actually think he out of all the cabinet reps who have fronted these meetings actually does care and have his brain switched on. Seems an intelligent guy really.

 

Another thing.. On the government charts, all the colours in the rainbow and they use 50 shades of grey (not the book/film!) on the same chart..

Dominic Cummings is the person who got the Leave vote over the line, whether you are a Brexiteer or a Remainer, he’s either the saviour of our great country or the psychopath who steered us over the cliff.

You are reading too much into that statement. All I'm saying is on a day to day basis, he doesn't have any impact on my life.. Leave or remain, my life wouldn't have changed. He has no impact how I conduct myself or feel for my family.

 

Rishi has put Johnson and his cohorts well in the shade when he's appeared, hence I think that's why we don't see much of him. Johnson must be afraid of him.
He's had a great war up to now, but today I think he made his first mistake, coming out on Twitter in support of Cummins.
I can only guess that he's been ordered to.

I thought i was the only one who considered that my life might not change much, whether we were in or out of the EU.

It is an option, but nobody bothers with it. And it's hard to work up the enthusiasm to post about errr... no real difference.

a vacuous cavity exists where critical thinking and now it appears common sense used to be. This sums up exactly what a bunch of sycophants we have as a government. I get they follow the party whip but I’m sorry this is not the way a democratic country should be run.

 

I certainly wouldn't put myself as in a protective financial bubble or owt I'm just in the 95% of all people in the country in those terms..
But if I think back to when I started working and voting, which ever government has been in force and the policies they put in place, I would be hard pushed to detail any impact on my life.
Even the financial crash I just carried on doing what I was doing.

Now maybe that's why I'm not as critical on the Torys, living in Barnsley as say the generation above for instance.
Also we had situations in the 1980's again for my parents where interest rates went through the roof and people struggled immensely with mortgages. Things have been really stable in those terms from the 1990's onwards.. Probably explains my view of things not really changing much for Brexit and indeed for this pandemic. We will bounce back and maybe eventually become stronger it people are doing more things local (holidays etc).

I know there are people who would be considered to be less fortunate who are really going to struggle, and who were struggling before. There is no need for this to be the case if the underlying reasons are tackled.

I can see the Eurozone areas reliant on the sunseekers really struggling for years to come now.

 

After Thatcher, every red and blue government has moved to the centre when in power, in order to try and keep control.

We're a pretty relaxed non-extreme country on the whole, despite the bias on here.

But it takes all sorts.

But the initial comment was Cummings had not impact on my life. Now if any other political party was in power, we would be lockdown so nothing would have changed!

As for foreign holidays - Had nothing planned.. Work - Going really well at the moment.. Kids At school..Not at the moment, but her education hasn't stopped..

 

Pretty much my point. But it has been proven time after time now that any shift to the left or right and you lose public support. Only those opposed to compromise and debate are afraid of the centre ground of politics. Starmer has already hinted he is heading more that way.
