And here's the BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg defending Cummings. She says that his trip was within the government guidlines. ******* hell! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rt.com/uk/489556-dominic-cummings-lockdown-bbc-kuenssberg/amp/
That is not the point of my post and you, like others on here are avoiding confronting the uncomfortable truth i.e All those on here spouting ' one rule for him and one for everyone else' are being totally hypocritical. I reiterate, baying for his blood and demanding his dismissal when hundreds of people who have done the same have either received a warning or a small fine and repeat offenders simply had to pay multiple fines is inconsistent. I remind you, he is NOT an elected representative and therefore simply an employee like most people on this website so comparing him to ministers and MPs who have resigned for flouting lock down rules is not relevant. Those arguing should therefore also argue that anyone who has done the same (and there are lots of people) should also be sacked. I am not defending his behaviour, and he does come across as a thoroughly arrogant driven individual, but IMO driving 5 miles or driving 500 miles in a car , so long as someone isolates at both ends of a journey and avoid contact en-route is no real no difference when assessing any risk to other people. That applies whether it be Joe Bloggs or Dominic F*****G Cummings. The whole circus is politically motivated whipped up an agenda driven section of the media and the usual suspects on here (who have resorted to puerile name calling (thick as mince"?) ) against anyone who does not share their opinions need to take a long look in the mirror. Mass hysterical outpourings seem to be the order of the day in these times.
Did it manage to knock any sense in? (Sorry mate you walked into that one) Can you actually address my point re hypocrisy re the one rule for one ....etc. yet insisting Cummings should bet treated differently to all other people breaking the same rule?
I've still got a feeling Boris Cumming's is a major part of this government, unelected but Boris' right hand (wing) man. He helped shape the appalling Covid response. He therefore gets held to account differently to Joe Bloggs.
He’s employed by the government and sits on the panel that devised the rules. If you can’t see how that makes him different to anyone else, then I don’t consider you worth talking to. By the way, I haven’t left the house in 10 weeks, so don’t call me a hypocrite. A hypocrite is someone that takes advantage of the EU Freedom of Movement to move to a different country and then votes to deny others the opportunity to do the same. I’m sure you wouldn’t know anything about that.
Go on then..Explain why it is nonsense? (Incidentally was it you earlier in this thread who accused YN of posting then avoiding responding to comments. You appear to be doing the same. How do you 'square' people wanting everyone to be treated equally yet punished differently for the same offence? I REPEAT Cummings is NOT an elected representative he is an employee, and an adviser. If every influential employee in an organisation who was found to have breached lockdown was sacked the same people on here would be screaming 'Fascist dictatorship'. Everyone on this BB seems to know for certain Cumming is running the Govt, single handed without any actual proof.
It would appear he's on his way, the great deletathon of Tory MPs supporting tweets yesterday has apparently commenced.
No it’s not spot on at all , most people don’t work for a govt that’s telling people to go the exact opposite of what you’re doing . I think most executives would resign or be fired if they contravene their rules .
People directly involved with formulating or publicising the strategy should be setting an example The Scottish CMO, and UK CHeif scientist Ferguson were forced to resign from their positions and rightly so for lesser offences - they hardly travelled the country whilst infected - Cummings should indeed be treated the same Id also argue Tory MP - Robert Jenrick should consider his position in cabinet - though his is definitely a lesser offence and that Kinnock were he in the shadow cabinet( he isnt) should also consider his position - Both Jennick and Kinnock were stupid and set a poor example but maybe you see things differently in Italy - but here in the UK Cummings is seen as one of the Key people running the country and for him to ignore the rules is far worse than Jennick or Kinnock who are much less significant figures. Id also say I am far more concerned with the damage done by the Cabinet and even the Attorney General basically saying its OK to break the rules for familiy reasons - thats just bizarre - we are sacrificing the whole strategy to try and save the career of one unelected guy
Because he sits on the panel that devised these rules! You simply cannot enforce a law on the general public, and then ignore it yourself. And if you could point out the place where I've dodged a question I would be really grateful. If I've don't this it certainly wasn't intentional - I'm pretty good at answering questions and I'm happy to admit when I'm in the wrong. As I've done already this morning.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/polit...m_campaign=sharebar&__twitter_impression=true Even if you're defending Cummings, this is funny and if u say it isn't you're in denial
The above text reads as described. Quite an outpour of hysteria. But again, in my opinion (based on your contributions to this topic) you seem to be missing the point. Now, I don't know if that's because what has happened is at odds with your political views, but I'd wager that being the reason. It is my belief that the lockdown was unnecessary, in terms of the scale of it, which I outlined from the start. I actually supported the Tories' initial stance. I might well have been wrong to do so. But I have obeyed the law. I have been outside only to walk my dog (which I also classed as my exercise) and about three times to get shopping, in 10 weeks. I've lost relatives during that time. And despite that, I haven't once visited relatives, or friends; I've obeyed the law/rules. My partner has worked ridiculous hours at the city hospital, day in, day out. This is all very real. It's not a fantasy world we are living in. So yes. Cummings' actions go completely against the law/rules. And these are rules/laws he was involved in setting out. As chief adviser to the PM. He and his wife caught the disease, from the PM we are told. In the laws/rules, it was made abundantly clear that anyone with the virus should remain in their home, as should the other members of their household, and self isolate. There was nothing said about the rules/laws being left open to interpretation. It was made very clear, day in, day out, that travelling unnecessarily was forbidden. To travel with the virus, hundreds of miles, to stay at the home of your elderly (the most vulnerable to the virus) parents was not an option. It is why many of us who've lost relatives and loved ones, were unable to be with them in their final moments. So yes. Cummings has broken the law/rules and considering his position and the role he has in government, he should have resigned as soon as he was found out to be a liar, flouter of laws/rules. And why? Because with him remaining in his privileged and powerful position, it sends out a clearer than ever message that it is one rule for the common folk, and a very different one for the so-called 'elite' in this country. The fact he has seemingly been breaking the laws/rules willy nilly throughout the last six weeks only adds to my belief that he should have resigned by now. This isn't a view or stance that I'm making based on being a Labour voter, or pro-EU voter. Because I believe all of those already named as flouting/breaking the rules/laws of lockdown should also have resigned from their government-based positions. Unlike yourself, I won't for a second even try and compare the actions of Chief Adviser to the Tories, Dominic Cummings with those of 'Joe Bloggs' that you referred to. There's my non-hysterical opinion, which seems to be shared pretty universally.
So you resort to personal abuse and irrelevant comments. OK my turn.... Since people will still have the opportunity to move to a different country (nowhere does it state that people cannot retire abroad if they go through the proper procedures - permanent residency we never a given even in the EU if certain criteria could not be met( Show me any documents that state you cannot or will no longer be able to move abroad ....go on!!) .You are tallking Boll*x. You are a total Fuc*wit!! and it is iImpossible to debate reasonably with a few on here , including yourself , who are bilinded by dogma and ideology
Not going to get into a slanging match but you have to admit it becomes much harder to retire abroad after brexit than it was when you moved to Italy Id also say thats completely irrelevant as to whether Cummings should be treated differently to Steven Kinnock
BarnsleyReds is quite easily one of the most reasonable, erudite and sensible posters on here. You really don't do yourself any favours. I kind of regret taking the time to reply further up now.
Where is the hysteria? Not a supporter of Cummings but then again I have never met the bloke and nor have the overwhelming majority on this BB. What I have seen or heard he comes across as arrogant, driven and lacking empathy, but I, most people, have based that opinion based solely on what is reported in the media which is often neither accurate or objective.
