If your eyesight isn’t 100%, have a drive. See how it goes

The Cummings' must have bladders of steel. A 5 hour drive each way without a stop?

    Wow.

Isn’t Starmer a prosecuting solicitor? Surely he will be able to pull this pathetic cover story apart.

I am shocked that the PMs right hand man does not fall within the category of being given access to testing. I think he may fall within the essential worker category

I'm shocked the PM's right hand man couldn't arrange childcare in London.

Are we watching an episode of " would I lie to you.?" Irrespective of his excuses, he was
involved in making " the rules" , he broke them and should be man enough to accept the
consequences. He shouldn't be surprised if the public say what's good enough for him, it's
good enough for me and start socialising to the point we get a spike in cases.

Especially as the rest of the script, sorry statement, goes into such accurate detail. Oh and I love how he's playing the "sympathy for Boris" card at every opportunity!

Also, whilst under quarantine, he went to pick up his son and wife (who also may have had it) from hospital as 'there were no taxis'. Does his family not drive? Did he not have the phone number of one person who could have picked them up?

Note that the BBC website omits the comment about testing his eyesight

His kid needed a wee on the 20 miles to the castle but not on the 5 hour drive there or back. It's ridiculous really.

Had I been in his position, with a wife and child, with access to a cottage within the grounds of family, but away from them, I might have done the same. Had I done so I wouldn't have expected to keep my job. I would have put my family over my job.

Had I been in a similar position I wouldn't have gone out for a jaunt to see if my eyes worked. Doesn't seem like a good idea on more levels than I can count. Hiding your family away in a remote cottage, but close to family is one thing. I get it, I'm not excusing it, but I get it. Going out for the day when you've all got Covid-19, testing if your eyes still work by driving, getting out of the car not once but twice for a run around, that's... nope, run out of words. Can't understand how he thinks it's OK to sit there and defend that.

It's quite a major thing to miss out. Also, he didn't know if he could see, he did a test drive and felt sick on it and then thought 'sod it' and did the drive anyway.
