But the offer is for 23 live games, is it not - regardless of the uncertainties? If the games go ahead behind closed doors, the club would have to at least give fans the refund option. Perhaps if they were being more explicit and saying,"You'll get either 23 live games or televised equivalent" then, yes, they could justifiably keep the money. I've yet to read all the associated bumf... is that what they're saying?
I'd assume the T&Cs would make it clear you are purchasing access to23 games either streamed live OR live in the stadium.
It's a good point but I don't think they are in a position to enforce anything. They can ask nicely but there's not a lot the club can do if the players say thanks but no thanks. Didn't Mowatt recently say they had been asked that question? It would be interesting to know what the outcome was.
That's true but with redundancies up and down the country how much financial sense does it make for the club to extend the contract of players when a/. We have quite a big squad over and above the minimum required and b/. They are saying how the future of the club is in doubt without fan donations (which is what they are essentially asking for on the refund issue)
Does anyone know re ifollow, do you have to watch the stream live or can you watch it afterwards at a time of your chosing (on demand)?
Either live, at the time, or from any point the next day (usually around 20 hours after kick off they upload to the system). If you are a subscriber, you could go on the results page of the website right now and watch any of the previous games that weren't blacklisted (broadcast by Sky or overseas broadcasters etc).
I'd have thought Mowatt makes financial sense given we'd be able to sell him during the transfer window and potentially help with the financial shortfall. If there's still a transfer market that is Can't remember who else has been extended but the same may apply? Also, aren't some of the extensions until the end of the season to allow it to be completed.
I have renewed. I was surprised and disappointed by the pricing - I, like others, expected it to be a lot less than £249 given what was said. My lad turned 12 during the season so his ticket actually went up a lot, meaning I’ve paid more overall than last season (we’re in the family stand). We might get nothing for that as well. But at the end of the day, billionaire owners or not, the club is on its arse. All the clubs outside the premier league are (even some of them will be), and I won’t hold back from doing something I inevitably will anyway when that might contribute to the end of the club, or at least further hardship. I expect I will be in a minority though. I am very fortunate, I’m not rich or even on stupid money wage wise but I’ve been paid throughout and am working from home. My Mrs has been on full pay from her employer too (she’s just found out she’s going back to work in a couple of weeks as the bookies are being classed as retail and can open from June 15th), we haven’t suffered financially and we can, just about, afford it without it impacting the family. I know that won’t apply to many, which is in part why I’ve done it, as I think it will be too difficult for a lot and as such think the club will struggle to clear 2-3000 of these.
Just about to renew but does anyone know if Centenary Members are still due a 5% discount on the cost as per previous seasons? It’s not applied to the price on the online ticket office.
In normal circumstances there would have been zero chance of me getting one. But at the minute it’s probably not hyperbole to say that the clubs survival is precarious and down to us so reluctantly I will. I don’t expect to watch any live football this calendar year
Mowatt came up with the reasoning that the players already being the lowest paid players in the Championship which I think probably means they didn't agree to it. I think the point they missed is we are one of the smallest teams also hence why we pay lower wages.
Why would players take a pay cut? We are to all intents and purposes down they will all have relegation clauses. That will auto lower there wage next season anyways. How long is the averages player stay here you can measure it in months They will ask them to take a pay cut then could sell them in the next transfer window. or the player wants out when hears about better offer there no loyalty either way and why should there be its a business as we are constantly told if you weren't a first team regular and you were out of favour with struber or the club would anybody here agree to take a pay cut. they have already made public players such as Thaim can leave. if your boss said we don't want you , your not going to play again, you can leave. ..... a month later oh do you mind taking a pay cut or deferral till we can sell you those players are probably still laughing at the suggestion. A players career is short ,it could end with the next tackle ,this could for some be there last big payday as they could drop down the leagues. they have there whole life after football maybe with no prospects of a decent job if any job at all. you have to get every penny you can. i presume like most people there mortgage is linked to the size of there wages. they will have bills etc based on there usual income you pick up the paper look online ,your owners have just bought a football club and in the next breath they are asking you to lower your wages not things to make you want to put your hand up. They bought a business , claimed they were going to run it properly and want everybody else apart from themselves to cough up money to pay bills of that business. what happened to running a business through the good times and bad are they going to give us a percentage when they sell up ? you couldn't make it up instead why don't they offer to sell the fans a percentage of the club to get some money into the club at least you would be getting something to show for your money. would make you feel more involved and part of the club . and want to help in any way you could in future if possible have maybe a said member of that supporters club on the board. to listen relay whats happening to feel more part of the club whether it be through the good or bad times Think more people would be willing to help out then instead of the feeling of being used with there emotional blackmail line how many season tickets holders are there 10,000 ? more /less 100 quid each 1 million 250 quids is 2.5 million 500 quid = 5 million. @10,000 fans
I think the point being so that a club doesn't go out of business, but they aren't fans they are employees. With all due respect to our owners who I'm no real fan of - I don't think anyone saw this global pandemic coming.
On reflection in just foing to give it another month. See if we have any clearer picture by the end of June on when and if fans may return to the stadium. The prospect of watching games on iplayer does little for me. Spending £250 to not go seems rather pointless to me. If the club was on the brink of collapse then I would chip in. We don't know that it is yet.
I get this side of the argument, but football as an industry is under threat (if you want to be blunt and drastic about the situation). If Barnsley and a handful of other teams around the world were to go bust, then suddenly they have no contract or wage and will be competing with the other players on the free transfer list for less lucrative contracts - potentially. On that basis a two month deferral or wage decrease might be a challenge right now, but it could secure their longer term future. All hypothetical and any deferral might mean less or more financially to a Mowatt/Woodrow than a Williams/Marsh/Walton as it's all relative.
Whilst I agree players usually end up being paid still if a club goes out of business its usually the non playing staff that get shafted. These would be the ones I would hope our players have in mind when discussions of a wage deferral have been on the table. I do think player wages are going to have to become more realistic going forward, I think for sometime the contract they have now might be the best one they have for a while (youth players aside)
